I wired up the lead … checked the wiring with a Multimeter and its all wired Midi Plug PIN 2 to TRS Jack SLEEVE, Midi Plug PIN 4 to TRS Jack RING & Midi Plug PIN 5 to TRS Jack TIP … all good.
However … the Midi Triggering is very erratic and not always correct / inconsistent.
The 3.5mm TRS Jack I used was one from my local parts store which they sell for Headphone audio-mini-plugs.
I have no idea if it is a Type A or Type B or something else.
=> would the fact that it is an audio 3.5mm TRS plug be causing this erratic midi triggering (?)
=> how do I tell if I have or get a Type A 3.5mm TRS Jack (?)
Hi, TRS is always the same. Type A and Type B refers to the connection of the pins and the TRS plug. The schematic you’ve posted is from the official Roland/Boss website and shows the connection of the boss bmidi adapter plug. This plug is a Type A 5 pin to TRS adapter. That’s the standard Boss has been using since they introduced TRS midi. My guess is that you’ve soldered your cables wrong. The pins shown in the schematic are from the point of view of the BACK of the 5 pin plug
