I’m running a Kemper Player and Source Audio Encounter via a Waveshare USB hub. Can I plug the hub into the MC6 Pro Host port and my laptop into the Device port to avoid rewiring for live vs. studio use?
If you’re trying to use the MC6 Pro itself as a USB Hub (meaning other USB devices are passing USB data through it, such as for editing the Source Audio Encounter in Neuro), then no you can’t do that. Have you considered wiring the Kemper Player, Encounter and MC6 Pro to one another via DIN MIDI, then putting all three on the Hub to connect to the computer?
the Kemper Player only has usb midi
I’m not trying to use the MC6 Pro as a hub or a passthrough. I’ve moved to a bi-directional USB 3.0 switch setup.
All my devices (Kemper Player, SA Encounter, and the MC6 Pro’s own device port) are connected to an internal Waveshare Hub. The output of that hub goes into a small USB switcher.
-
Mode A (Live): The switch routes the hub to the MC6 Pro Host port. The MC6 Pro acts as the controller for the pedals while also managing my ML5 via the 5-pin DIN.
-
Mode B (Edit): The switch routes the hub to a USB-C panel mount on the side of my board. I plug my laptop in there to access Rig Manager and Neuro for all devices at once.
Since the Kemper Player uses USB MIDI for control, this lets me toggle the ‘Host’ of the entire board between the MC6 and the Laptop without moving any internal cables. Does this sound like a reliable way to handle the Kemper’s USB-only MIDI requirement alongside the other gear?
Gotcha. While editing, the PC is the host and everything is a device, including the Morningstar through its device port. While live, the Morningstar’s host port becomes the “head.” That should work just fine.
I need to get me one of those hubs. lol.
