Hi There,
my objective is to set Preset A as a Rhythm/Solo preset using Pos1 (reverb) and Pos2 as solo (delay+reverb+eq).
- I’m using Mornigstar ML10X for controlling the analog EQ
- H9 (reverb) and Soliventus(delay)
I have set
The situation is:
- the Preset A works fine: if I hit it, just reverb, if I hit it again, revreb+delay+eq
- But all others Presets are available too ..
- If Preset A is working, I would be able to hit Preset C, Preset D, etc and will turn on, one after the other (which I don’t want).
I played with the Reset Groups, but the issue don’t solve.
Carlos
Do you have your other Presets (B-F) also configured to be in Toggle Group 2?
I am new to the Morningstar system as well. I thought that the Toggle Reset Group would do it, but you’re right, it doesn’t. It seems that while the Toggle state itself is reset (I see the color changing on my unit) the corresponding pos1/2 messages are not sent.
I have to figure this out as well. Will report back.
Unfortunately it looks like the Toggle (Reset) Group stuff acts purely on the Toggle position, and doesn’t send any corresponding position-based messages.
I hope I’m wrong because this will be a real big pain in the butt for me. I’m used to the PirateMIDI setup where Switch Groups can be setup to send a switch’s corresponding Off messages, making this kind of functionality very easy to set up.
I hope we are wrong, totally boomer.
It make no sense …
You can still achieve what you need, you just need to manually program it. The Toggle Reset Group feature would work fine if all we needed to do is change presets on devices.
In my case I’m controlling pedals that need explicit bypass messages sent - it’s not just program changes - so this is getting super cumbersome.
In any case, you need to manually program Preset B to disable whatever pedals are enabled on Preset A. On Preset B, for example, I’m using a combination of the “Set Toggle” message to reset the toggle of the Preset (Preset A in this case) along with the “Trigger Messages” message to trigger the necessary bypass messages that I have added to pos2 of Preset A.
If you have 6 different Presets and they all need to bypass one another, that’s quite a bit of programming. There might be another way…
The most efficient way to do this is to programm a preset that resets all devices.
Programm an ‘engage preset’ message as first message of a new preset to trigger the reset.
Step 1: Set up a preset to bypass all devices. Let’s call it Preset X
Step 2: When setting up a new preset the first message should consist of an ‘engage preset’ message that triggers Preset X. All devices will be bypassed. Continue to programm the preset with messages to engage the devices you want to be active in that preset. Do it like this with every new preset.
Step 3: Put all Presets (except Preset X) in a toggle reset group.
When selecting a preset the other presets will toggle to position 1 and the only the devices you want to be engaged will be active.
The strategy I have been using when setting up all my banks has been to include:
- In each Preset, messages to turn off all pedals associated with the Preset. Every pedal (used in the Preset) gets its own message to turn it off. For organizational purposes, I start these messages at Msg10 always.
- “Set Toggle” and “Trigger Messages” message(s) in every one of my Presets, on the Press action of Pos1. These messages determine which other Presets need to be toggled, and also tell the other Presets exactly which pedals to turn off. For organizational purposes, I start these messages at Msg20.
Using those two messages I can determine which other Presets need to be toggled when I trigger the new Preset, and also which pedals need to be turned off. I can customize things so that I am able to explicitly define which pedals need to be turned off based on specific transitions between Presets, i.e., Preset A → Preset B kills all pedals on Preset A, but Preset A → Preset C may leave the delay pedal on from Preset A but kill everything else… etc. This is important for me since a lot of the songs I’m performing require a very specific sequence of pedals and sounds.
It’s a lot more work than a simple “Bypass Everything” Preset in every Bank, but much more flexible. A lot more flexible than the “Switch Groups” strategy PirateMIDI employs too. I’m liking it!
Thanks radialmelt … will give it a try.
my question is more about Pos2 …
while I use “Both” there is no problem.
But when I use Pos1/Pos2 … the Pos2 … create a mess with other Presets
Due to lack of room on my board - I had to remove my ML5 Loop switcher.
The strategy to make up for this - In one bank - I use a preset for each pedal - that makes it “exclusive” - that means I have one single preset that sets ALL wet pedals to “bypass”.
And one preset for each pedal that engages it.
I Then engage the single pedal I want to be turned on.
I program the appropriate “ENGAGE PRESET” actions to do this.
I have also used the “SHIFT / UNSHIFT” method as well - like a third switch press.
if you are using an ML10x loop switcher - this scenario is exactly what it is used for.
You send a PC message to the ML10 to bypass all the pedals - and send a PC to it, to engage the ones you want.
Hope this clarifies your situation
Regarding toggling - i have had success with MANUALLY TOGGLING the preset
The “preset toggle group” action can be confusing in its implementation.
Also confirm if you have put a reset toggle message in your ‘enter bank’ area - this may cause the wrong behaviour.
TURN ON THE BLINK
Action messages - in the “both” position
then create a “toggle preset” message at the appropriate place.
Hope this helps
