[Solved] Firmware Update Help

Hi there,

first time poster. Apologies if there is already a thread going for this.

I’m guessing my issue is isolated and user error but please help if able. I got my MC8 a few weeks ago and updated 3.6 after receiving it without issue. I backed up my presets, installed the new firmware updater software, downloaded the hex file for 3.7 and the updater seems to get stuck at each attempt to upload. and my presets were deleted from the controller along the way although i do have the saved backup file. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there,

At which step does it get stuck? Does it show any error? Can you screenshot or record the process?

Are you using a USB Hub? Do try connecting directly to the computer if possible.

Thanks for the reply, James!

the MC8 does not seem to respond to the updater although it is recognized
by the laptop when connected. (brand new WIN10 i7 lenovo) It is plugged directly in to laptop port w/ no HUB. the updater after selecting hex file stalls out while green progress bar is going side to side and will continue on until force closed.

Thanks for the info. First time I’m hearing about this. Possible to send a video through?

You are using the latest version of the updater right?

yes, downloaded last night. I can send video. before I do is the MC8 supposed to be in any config mode when using the updater?

It doesnt need to be in any mode. Ok, will wait for the video. Thanks

Not sure if it will help, but you can try another version of the updater we are working on:

heres a couple videos of the the updater in the same state for beta version and 9.1.

hope the quality is okay, let me know if i can film something specifically

EDIT to add: I can re film video in 4k if needed.

Thanks! The video is clear enough.

That’s odd though, never seen this before. Is there another USB cable you can try? This doesn’t really matter but the MC8 does not need to be powered via 9v when the USB is plugged in. Can you try removing the 9v and just powering it with USB?

Is there another computer you could potentially use to upload?

I just tried a new USB and I have already tried it without 9v to the same end. I will the other computer momentarily. This was in the log if helpful

Thanks for sharing this.

Can you try this:

  1. Remove the backplate
  2. There is a tact switch on the board labelled “S1”. While the device is connected to the computer (and with the firmware uploader open), press the button. Then try uploading as per usual.
  3. If this still does not work, remove USB cable, hold down the S1 button, then connect USB cable. Wait 3 seconds before releasing the button, then try uploading as usual.

Thanks for your patience about this. Hope the above will solve it.

method 1 worked first try. Thanks!

Great! Thanks for the feedback.
