Question:
When either loop 1 or loop 2 is selected, in “Tempo” on MC6 says “MidiClock BPM:0”, but I want it to read the Tempo from the RC5. How do I achieve this?
Context
I have a Boss RC5 loop pedal connected to my MC6 (via a cable that connects my RC5 midi in (TRS) to my MC6 midi out (5-pin).
I have saved 2 loops in my RC5 at different BPMs:
loop 1= 136 BPM
loop 2= 125 BPM
I have set up the MC6 to switch between the two loops to start and stop them with a “Tempo” switch to show and control the tempo.
Hi,
the MC can’t ‘read’ the tempo of your RC.
What you can do is to enable midi clock out on the RC and send it to the MC. You’d have to connect the midi out of the RC to the 5 pin midi in of the MC.
To prevent midi loops, make sure to disable midi through in the MC’s controller settings (from/to the ports to which the RC is connected).
Alternatively you could manage the tempo by the MC instead.
Here is a video to get you started
I tried that and although the BPM is now showing for those 2 tracks now some unexpected behaviour.
My switch D is assigned to “Mem inc” and was working fine.
However when you press it now it increases the Memory, but also it goes up to the next Bank! However this weird action only seems to happen where there has been something saved in a memory slot.
It’s possible to disable ‘midi through’ in ‘controller settings’. You have to disable midi through from the port to which the rc’s midi out is connected to the port towhich the rc’s midi in is connected. If you don’t any message that has been send to the rc will be send back to the mc and then send again out to the rc. That’s called a midi loop.
Maybe I’m just not disabling the right port? In terms of my cables, I’m using 2x BOSS Bmidi-5-35 cables. One to connect my RC5 midi in (TRS) to my MC6 midi out (5-pin) and the other to connect the RC5 midi out to MC6 Midi in. This is a screenshot of the ports- have I unticked the right one?
I’m sorry, my fault. The mc6 mk II doesn’t have the option to disable midi through for specific ports. You’d have to disable midi through completly. It’s the slider bottom row, in the middle of your screenshot.
A midi loop would be a possible cause, but it could be something else. Your screenshot shows that it is enabled, btw. Did you change anything else? The programming of the MC or settings on the RC?
Are we talking about the RC’s or the MC’s banks? If it’s the MC’s, did you set both devices to different midi channels?
Hi,
make sure both devices are on different midi channels.
Check the RC’s settings. I know that the RC 500 can send pc messages when switching presets. The RC 5 might do that, too.
Check the midi monitor to get an idea what’s going on.
