Several issues with ML10X?

It feels like something is possibly wrong with my ML10X? I have my Motu Ultralite mk5 sending with a Y splitter cable (channels 3/4) into stereo input in the ML10x, then outputting same way from ML10X into input channels 3/4 in the audio interface.

Then I have the following loops:

Send A Onward IN
Return A Onward OUT
Send B Lost + Found
Return B Lost + Found
Send C Mood mk2
Return C Mood mk2
Send D Etherealizer Qi
Return D Etherealizer Qi

Yesterday things were working relatively fine, even though I feel like occasionally the volume was a bit low.

Today, I am trying with a preset that is just the input → output, and the volume is very minimal, as I can barely see a little bit of activity in the meter, but can’t hear anything. Also, it occasionally feels like there’s some kind of feedback loop, as I get these static cracks/pops sometimes if I get audio. Moreover, when I was playing yesterday, the signal would sometimes go to mono and sometimes go back to stereo.

I’m a bit of a beginner with these things, so bear with me. For a while I thought there was something wrong with how I route audio with Ableton, but now it really feels like the problem is isolated to the ML10X.

Last thing to mention is that I’ve not run into issues with the pedals when just doing effects loops with the audio interface directly.

You should try changing the Y splitter cables to see if they are the issue. LMK how that works

Thanks, I did a factory reset and updated the firmware, and things seem to work properly for now. And yeah seems like I got wrong cables (EBS ICY30 and 100). Will try to find more splitter cables made by you guys.

Does a stereo pedal that has both left and right input/outputs (4 TS slots) need the kind of splitter adapter cable sold by you? Or is something like the EBS ICY30 good for this use case?

Interesting. I’ve never had trouble with the EBS ICY cables.

Do you have ICY cables for in/out? I just get mono out when using one coming out from ML10X into my audio interface.

I’ve used them everywhere. TRS in the “ML10X out” to go to separate Left/Right channels, plugged into the ML10X loops to go left/right of stereo pedals or even to two separate pedals.

I really wonder why my setup doesn’t work then.

I have:

Two TS cables going into Morningstar’s splitter, which goes into the input.

Y cable with TRS end in MLX’s output, and the TS ends go into the audio interface channels.

I have stereo effect loops with TRS cables (Chase bliss pedals for example), but I still get mono even if I don’t route any effects, just in→out makes it so that I hear audio only from one side (so it’s stereo but just one signal?). I am trying with both stereo input into MLX (VST synths for example) and mono input (guitar)

At least according to ChatGPT I would need a stereo breakout cable and not an insert cable (which the ICY30 and 100 cables are?). Do you really have the ICY30 cable going from ML10X’s output (not effect loops)?

Are you making sure to program the inputs and outputs so that something is actually going in and out on both sides? Since all the 10 loops of the ML10X are independent, stereo effects need to have both the left and right sides defined.

On the input, make sure that you have “Input Split” turned OFF. Input split is a special feature that takes a mono input signal and sends it through both both the tip and ring inputs (useful when your stereo pedals don’t have an easy way of doing mono in → stereo out).

My board is taken apart right now, but yes, I often have an ICY30 connected on its TRS end to the ML10X Output, with the tip going right and the ring going left to whatever the next stage is (e.g. my audio interface).
