Seeking Vendors for Midi A Cables

Hi All,

Question 1: I am seeking a good vendor for various types of Midi A cables. I usually use Sweetwater, but they have a very limited supply. Do any of you know of one? I also checked out Patchwerks, but I didn’t see the cable I seem to need, described below. I’d most like to find a supplier on Amazon, so I can get a fast delivery.

Question 2: I am trying to connect one of my MC8’s omniports to the midi in (1/8" Type A) of my Boss RC500. So, I think I need a 1/4" TRS at the MC8 end, and a 1/8" TRS at the RC500 end. I understand that I cannot use a standard audio 1/8" to 1/8" TRS cable. I have not yet found such a cable anywhere. I actually haven’t found a Type A 1/8" to 1/8" cable anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Finally, can I plug a standard audio 1/8" to 1/4" converter plug into a the above Type A cable, or will that be incompatible.

Thanks!

–Adam

You might be able to find the cables you’re looking for at https://www.showmecables.com/

For question 2, I used a standard 1/8" stereo ( TRS ) cable plugged into a 1/4" converter for my MC8 → RC500 and the same setup into my GT1000core. I haven’t had any problems.

I started using these variable angle midi cables. I really like that I can move them to whatever angle I need as I am arranging my pedal board.

Small vendor on Reverb. I have bought two from them so far.

Hey TimBro, I’m glad this is working for you. James at Morningstar told me, “I noticed that you are using a TRS to MIDI cable in the video, and that it is a 1/8” TRS to MIDI cable, which is probably incompatible. Do note that TRS cables specified for “audio” purposes have different connections from the MIDI standard. The cable needs to be a “Type A” MIDI to TRS cable." So I am interested that this is working for you. I bought standard TRS 1/8" cables and adapters, and so far I have not been able to make them work, hence the search for Midi Type A cables that meet the specifications, and my surprise that they are harder to find than I imagined.

Also TimBro, thx for the link to showmecables. I’ve asked them if they have the specific Type A 1/4" to 1/8" midi cable I need, so we’ll see.

That’s a clever application, Bluegator. It doesn’t solve my current situation, but it’s good to know about :-).

Yes hard to find…

You can use standard 1/8" TRS audio cables, no issues there. You’ll just need a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter - those are pretty common and quite cheap: 3.5mm Female to 6.35mm 1/4" Male Stereo Audio Jack Adaptor Gold Plated

All helpful. Thanks Intimo!

Thanks so much, James! It’s finally solved. I’ve got solid basic midi connections to all three of my devices now, so now I’ll be able to tinker with preferences, settings, configurations, etc. Thanks so much for your ongoing help!
