Replicate boss rc10-r footswitches

Hi all.
I’m sure this has been touched in other topics but I can’t find a definitive answer to this.
I hope you all can help.
I am wanting to replicate the two footswitches of the BOSS RC10-R looper with my MC6 Pro.
From what I have found so far I need to send a ‘press’ CC# message and at the same time send a ‘release’ CC# message to imitate a momentary press of the footswitch to the RC10-R.
This works to a degree, but it still is very flakey… for example
I have tried sending a ‘long press’ CC# to undo/redo the loop track (as with the left hand footswitch on the RC10.
The loop start / stop seems to miss the intro out
There does not seem to be an ‘overdub’ CC# command but when the loop stop start on the MC6 is pressed it overdubs, but then cannot clear with a long press.
Does anyone have a concise list of settings to make this work properly? I have programmed the RC10 with all the CC# numbers from #1 to #18 with all necessary actions.
Many thanks in advance.

If you’re going the CC route, make sure you are programming CCs for all the functions. So, for the undo/redo action, it’s not enough to just space out the press and release of the other action, you have to (1) on the RC-10R, attach a CC to the undo/redo command and then (2) on the MC6 Pro, program a long press action that sends that CC.

If you’re just replicating the onboard footswitches, it’s possible that using the relay port to control CTRL 1 and 2 might work better for you.

Thank you Jason.
So what you are saying i can replicate both footswitches on the RC10 using a relay port of the MC6 PRO with a 3.5mm TRS to 1/4 inch TRS into the CTRL 1/2 socket of the RC10.

Yep. I don’t have RC-10R, but I have other Boss units and most of them have extensive controls you can program for external footswitches. Here’s pg 6 of the RC-10R parameter guide:

Looks like you can set ctl1 or ctl2 to act just like the rhythm switch. The loop switch appears slightly more complicated to set, but hopefully you can find a setting that works for you.

Hi Stephen

I’ve been trying to get my MC8pro to control my RC-10R using the supplied RC10-R midi dictionary. I have most things working but can not engage the loop start which i presume starts recording the loop to trk 1. When i engage the assigned switch it causes the Rhythm tempo to max out to 350 bpm and nothing else. Are you able to record loops? If so can you help out with the process. Thanks in advance

Fred

Hi Fred. I’ll get you some screenshot of my MC6 PRO setup. It now works pretty much how I want. The only thing I can’t do just yet is clear overdubs. So far I have managed to:

  • Start loop record (have to manually set the sync)
  • Record overdub
  • Stop loop record
  • Clear recorded loop
  • Set loop level with expression pedal

Each action has its own switch. The important thing is to send 2 CC#’s press and release for each switch to mimic the momentarily action of the RC10. Also set the toggle position ‘on’ with ‘both’ selected for each press and release CC#

Hi Stephen

That would be awesome!! Appreciate it.

Fred

Also it helps if you program the above CC# numbers into the RC10R (from the guide sent previous) Give you something to reference against when you’re entering the messages into the Morningstar… have to say they are great pieces of kit… best thing I’ve put on my board for a long time
