Relay switching conundrum w/Orange amps

Hi guys,

I know this might ultimately be a question for Orange, but it’ll probably make more sense to you guys and seems like a good place to start.

I use an MC6 pro to run a midi fx board through the fx loop of my Orange Rockerverb amp. I use one of the relay ports to alternate between the amps clean and dirt channels. This works great and is central to how I’ve written all my guitar parts. To change the channels I have to send an ‘engage’ message for clean and ‘disengage’ for the dirt channel. This always seemed counterintuitive but whatever, so all my patches are programmed this way.

The Rockerverb is a wonderful but expensive tube amp, and I needed a backup amp so have bought their much more affordable solid state version of the Rockerverb, the Supercrush 100. This means if my main amp fails, as tube amps are wont to do, I can quickly swap the Supercush in. So far so good.

The issue is that the switching on the Suoercush is reversed - so I now need an ‘engage’ message for the dirt channel and a ‘disengage’ message for the clean.

What this means in practice is that every preset I’ve programmed to have a clean guitar tone is in fact dirty, and every preset that’s supposed to be dirty is clean. This is no good.

So what can I do? My thoughts so far:

  1. Probably not much that can be done to change the amps. This is just how they’re made. I can ask Orange why the switching isn’t consistent across two amps that are supposed to be equivalents, but I don’t think that’s going to get me any closer to a solution (and btw the position of the switches on the amps themselves have no effect on this).

  2. Yes I could make a copy of all my banks and presets and do new versions which have the engage/disengage command reversed, but this would be a massive faff to do and more importantly would be really faffy to maintain. It’s not appealing.

  3. (and this is what I’ve been getting to) is there some kind of midi command that I can send which will reverse the ‘polarity’ of all the relay messages? It’s a long shot but worth asking as I’m really clutching at straws here

  4. is there some other fix that I’m missing?

The nuclear option is just returning the amp and looking for a different solution, but that’d be a shame because aside from this small but critical detail, it’s exactly right for my needs.

Thanks in advance to anyone that has taken the time to read this incredibly long winded and convoluted message. Any help grateful received!

Are you using both relay outs? If not just add a message to toggle the other one but inverted.
Edit:
The relay ports are trs. Orange uses ts. You could use a trs to ts y-split and program the crush on ring.

Hey, thanks so much! I think your first suggestion is the simplest - using one of the other relay ports dedicated for that amp. It’s perfect and just requires a bit of up front reprogramming of presets but after that I’m set up and just need to remember to use the right port. Perfect!

It’s also possible to invert the configuration of the ports manually
