Receive loop order via SYSEX?

Is there a sysex command I could send which let’s the ML5R send out it’s state?
like Loop order / loop bypass / preset number?
Then I could use TouchOSC to show me the state. Unfortunately the ML5R is “burried” in the pedalboards lower deck, so I wondered if that is possible.
I found some hints, that the ML5R can change loop order by receiving CC messages etc.

Thank you for any insight!

I don’t remember if this is exactly true, but I think the MIDI out on the ML5R is wired as a MIDI through only, so it might not be capable of generating messages. That said, you can force a MIDI order as shown in the MIDI implementation specs:

Both Order and Engage/Bypass State is directly controllable over MIDI, so once TouchOSC sets them, then what TouchOSC says is what the state is, unless you recall a preset.

Thanks, @jason.nguyen

I knew about the possibility to set loop orders etc,
What I am actually looking for, is a way to “ask” for the current preset/bypass/loop order state without setting anything.
But if the midi out is solely a midi through, it probably is not possible. However, I read that there are updates possible via a USB connection inside, so maybe that is something morningstar is considering to add in a future firmware?

So yes, there is an internal micro USB port that is capable of firmware updates, though since it’s internal, it’s not really suitable for continuous data transfer, such as for MIDI. Consequently, whether or not MIDI output is physically possible depends on the wiring of the MIDI through/out port. I’m checking in with engineering about that and will let you know.

Exciting! fingers crossed! Thank you so much!!

So I just checked in. The MIDI out is indeed hardwired directly as a through, so there’s no way to merge in additional MIDI.

Is there something about your use case where initially setting the state of the ML5R isn’t enough to “sync” it? In my ML5R usage, I manually set the the ML5R loop order and engage/bypass state on my controller side, not via presets, so I always know what state it’s in.

thank you very much jason!

Well, I have a pedalboard with two decks and the ML5R in in the lower part and I can’t see it at all. So it would have been very handy to read sysex or something similar and get it visualised on TouchOSC. I do this with a Meris ottobit to see the hidden settings, which works great.
But no biggie…..
thank you so much for checking!
