Positive Grid Spark Edge and MC6 Pro

Hello everyone - anyone successfully use their MC6 Pro (or anything Morningstar) to control a Positive Grid Spark Edge? It seems so simple and the midi mapping is included in the Edge user manual, but I can’t get it to work no matter what I try. I run my Din 5 cable from my MC6 out to the in on the Edge, set midi channel to 1, program up some messages in the editor for toggling effects and preset changes but nothing happens. I’ve tried reboots of all the hardware and double checked all cable connections. I know my MC6 Pro works great because I use it to control another rig I use. I setup a separate profile on the MC6 Pro to run the Edge, but it’s just been no go. Thanks for any help.

Have you tried sending PC messages on all channels to see if it’s responding at all? PC 0-15 should switch between the 4 sets of 4 presets: https://help.positivegrid.com/hc/en-us/articles/30788379789453-Assign-MIDI-commands-to-the-Spark-EDGE

Good idea, I’ll give it a try. Manual says MIDI channel 1 and I don’t see any option to change that in any of the settings, but who knows.

I think I have figured it out - I was able to get my MC6 Pro to communicate with my Spark EDGE. The key is the order in which you turn things on. You have to go in this order for power up: EDGE amp –> then connect the Spark app –> then connect the midi controller. If you connect the midi controller first then it seems communication with the Spark app doesn’t happen. Annoying, but hopefully this helps other who encounter this.

Whoa, the MIDI doesn’t work until you connect the app? Does the app have to stay connected?

That appears to be the case. I tried using my MC6 without the app connected and it didn’t work with my Edge. But if everything gets connected in the order I gave before it all works fine.
