My Morningstar MC6 Pro works perfectly for most of my pedals and I’m on the newest firmware, but when trying to use the Pigtronix Infinity, I’m not able to get it working.
It does seem like the Infinity is connected to the Morningstar since I’m seeing the Arm switch on the Infinity turn on/off when I press certain Morningstar buttons. I also made a sample preset where I tried doing exp control on Loop Volume and that made the record button not work on Infinity, which suggests to me that the Infinity is in fact connected to the Morningstar. (I have a screeenshot of that preset at the end of this email).
But nothing seems to really be working.
I followed the Pigronix INfinity manual for setting up the MIDI channel (holding the stop mode switch on booting up the pedal and turning the preset encoder to the selected channel–see screenshots below) and set up the pedal to be on Channel 6 on the MC6Pro. I am getting MIDI monitor messages when I click switches on the Morningstar. (see screenshot below the ones on Infinity),
I disconnected from the app to see if that could be an issue, but it isn’t. I read somewhere I may need to do a Real Time command, with MIDI real time set to start. I did that and it didn’t work either with it on or off. I tried adding the Looper Mode command under toggle, engage, and disengage and that didn’t work either.
I honestly have no clue what the issue(s) are that are preventing this from working. In the example I showed above, I have a command trying to record using the Morningstar rather than the Infinity, which I did as a test. I’m really trying to essentially just have a bank of Looper cc commands from Infinity to do things like undo/redo, reverse (to replace the Infinity’s remote controller), turn on loop aging, varispeed, and stutter. I’m pasting a couple screenshots below.
If you can give me any tips, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much.
So, welcome to pigtronix super intuitive MIDI setup /s
Hope you haven’t sold the pedal as if you learn to work around the quirks infinity + mc6 pro is a superb combo.(I have infinity 3 but I think they are almost the same)
So, for their “switch” category, 127 value means it is pressed so if you actually want to simulate press you need to send in quick succession CC 24 127 CC 24 0 (press release)
However they did actually think about this and added the following:
CC value 1 means short press CC value 2 means long press. (
I spent a few hours screaming at the pedal before I found this (had exact same 127 as my first setup) - feeling the shared pain.
Do let me know if you get stuck somewhere. I managed to achieve many things I didn’t think were possible with this looper including:
Start / stop different loops
Set up the pseudo tracking of the armed loop using MC6 toggle feature
Using above to stop both loops if you are in “ARM” setting (super useful if you want to play with different loops but stop when needed)
Being able to use Cue stop with metronome and also fading out at the end of the song (including fading out both loops at the same time while being able to control them independently during the song)
Hi @tsiguel Thank you so much for your response. I love the Infinity but man is it frustrating with MIDI. I have the Infinity 1 and haven’t been able to reach Pigtronix. Could you possibly send me over screenshots of presets you’ve done? I think my device may be defective. I did try the CC 27 127 CC 27 0 (press release) to try the undo/redo footswitch, and unfortunately it didn’t work. (Didn’t work when doing the CC 24 127 CC 24 0 (press release) either).
Seems that one of the major differences in Infinity and infinity 3 is that in infinity 1 (judging from your screenshot) almost everything is this “switch” thing while in infinity 3 it’s a bit more sane. (since config for undo is different in the manuals sharing ftsw1 -ftsw2 will not work btw if you haven’t had a recording on 1 so there’s that too)
If that doesn’t work I’d check the following things:
I see that series on/off is not a switch try to send that and see if looper reacts if it does not it might be not related to CC at all
If that doesn’t work I would cycle through channels on the off chance that it’s reacting to a different channel
There is also a setting on infinity 3 to ignore midi messages but looks like it’s not there in infinity 1 manual
Is there any bank command in the MC6 PRO you’re using when you’re using the looper?
Nothing special, not using loop mode eiether as I find latency of regular mode enough
Do your MIDI commands for the Infinity work when you’re connected with the Morningstar Editor? (it didn’t work either way for me, but I’m curious)
Yes they do BUT after save preset!
Will be happy to help troubleshooting but judging by times of our messages time zones are going to be hard to sync
