I am currently reconfiguring my midi order so that I can have Nixie (Strymon’s editing software) running along with the Morningstar Editor. I have an ML5 and it won’t send large enough Sysex messages apparently.
I’m wondering if there is other software that works along with Morningstar’s Editor. It would be great to get a comprehensive list of what software and how. So far, I’ve only found Nixie.
Any chance Symmlab (GFI Synesthesia) / DD-500 Editor (BOSS DD-500) / Neuro Editor (Source Audio) would be able to work? I’ve tried and I was unable, but I’m also aware that there were several global changes I had to make for my BigSky to work, so it’s possible I’m missing something.
Thanks!
Along the same topic - is there a list of pedals that will not send enough Sysex to get the aforementioned to work? I know of HX Stomp and ML5. Are there others?
I have a Source Audio EQ2, ML5, Strymon Iridium, Kernom Ridge, GFI Synesthesia, Boss DD-500, and a Midi Modded POG2 that I did (Oscillator Devices).
I’m not sure if this fits the criteria, but I use the Red Panda editors along with the Morningstar editor.
The Red Panda pedals and Morningstar controllers are communicating with the computer through USB while I can test and edit my presets through TRS midi.
Thanks for the reply @TonyS - I think my question wasn’t well presented. (I’m short on terminology)
When using the Strymon editor, Nixie, I have two options. 1. Use a bulky Midi box adapter thing and plug it into my computer and break the midi chain. 2. Use my MC6 Pro as the conduit for the connection - no need for special adapters or breaking my midi chain.
I also have a Strymon Iridium, Source Audio EQ2, Boss DD-500, and a GFI Synesthesia. The first two connect via USB mini, the latter two connect via USB B. As of now, I have to have four USB cables running from my board to my computer if I want to have all of the programs open and ready to edit.
It would be great if all of those programs could look at the MC6 Pro as the connection (just like Nixie and my BigSky do) - then it would be one USB C cable and done!
I haven’t found much in the way of people talking about this. I guess everybody just has a bunch of cables running to their boards?
Thanks!
I thought that’s what you meant. I have found it easier not to go through the MC6pro or MC8.
I do like having it active to test things though.
I have a setup when editing the Meris Enzo. I will merge the midi from the MC and computer at a old midi patchbay.
This way the Enzo communicates freely with the computer and I can also control it with the MC pedal.
I own a Strymon Iridium but aside from loading 3rd party IR’s, I’m just using it very simply.
Hi… you might (space and budget permitting of course!) be able to put a powered USB hub (a simple one with only USB outlets) on your board. In my experience some devices will be happy with that, and some won’t. And there’s the problem of powering such a hub, though many recent pedal board PSUs have a USB outlet. The ones that have a DC inlet for power typically need 5v which is not a feature on many PSUs, I’d guess
I’m not sure if what I’m wanting to do with an editor has to do with the Morningstar editor so much as the way in which Midi is communicated through the MC6 Pro.
I’ve got a couple of Chase Bliss pedals that have really good computer-based editors. One is web-based and the other is a Stand-alone app. Prior to setting up the MC6 Pro I was able to use the web-based editor using the Chase Bliss MidiBox which was connected to via my Midiface 8x8 USB Midi patchbay.
Now that the MC6 Pro is involved, I can no longer “see” the Chase Bliss pedals using either editor. I had hoped that in OS X’s Audio/Midi settings I’d be able to choose a specific Midi output on the MC6 Pro to pass midi through to the CB pedals, but so far I’m having no luck with that. The MC6 Pro shows itself as having 4 Midi Ports, but it’s unclear what those correspond to on the pedal itself and also how I’d need to configure the MS Editor to pass through Midi.
I’m still very new to all of this, so I may just be misunderstanding something fundamental.
If that doesn’t fit within the thread’s topic, I apologize. I didn’t want to start a second thread for something that seemed like it might be within the same scope of conversation.
