Hi everyone,
I’m trying to connect my MC6 Pro to the web editor (on Mac) to manage presets wirelessly.
The need arose because the Device port is necessarily occupied by the 4ms Metamodule — which, being a USB Host itself, cannot be connected to the MC6 Pro’s Host port.
So in order to use the editor at the same time, the only option I can see is using a WIDI Jack connected via USB-C to the MC6 Pro’s Host port.
From the Mac, the WIDI Jack shows up as connected and active. In the web editor page I can see it in both the Input and Output dropdown menus. I hit Connect, but after about 2 seconds I get a connection error.
I believe the WIDI Jack USB port’s purpose is only for power. It does not receive or send MIDI via USB. So you are powering the WIDI Jack via USB, but it is not communicating with the MC6 PRO.
You’ll need to connect the WIDI Jack to either the DIN5 MIDI ports or the 3.5mm ports.
Hi James, thanx for replying…
Unfortunately all my ports are busy …
do you see any other strategy to keep connected the web Editor and the 4ms Metamodule together with only the two USB (device and host) available?
Hi James, sorry, I missed your answer…
Even my 3.5 out port is busy (it sends midi to 1010music Blackbox)…
no way to use host to host connection? I heard about a sort of adapter capable of this…
What you are trying to do isn’t going to work. By plugging the WIDI Jack into the HOST port on the MC6PRO, the only thing you are doing is powering it on. It will not send MIDI through the HOST port. The DEVICE port and HOST port are different outputs and can’t be changed. To send MIDI you need to use any of the other ports but you’ve maxed them out! I didn’t even think that was possible, lol. Have you checked out the WIDI Uhost? It looks like you can use one Uhost to send MIDI to 2 devices; like sending MIDI via USB-C and Bluetooth. The WIDI jack to the HOST port won’t work.
Hi jcoreano, thanx for answering!
Uhost could be a solution actually…
If I understood correctly, your suggestion would be to connect the Widi Uhost to the MC6 Pro Device Port and so it could work to send midi in BLE to the computer and to the Widi Jack connected to the Host port of the 4ms Metamodule?
But, I think it would work in a simpler way too: the Uhost is compatible with host and device/clients (!), so I could connect it to the Host port and send directly to the computer in ble, leaving the MC6 device port free for the Metamodule, right? In this way it would just act as a “converter” …
I was also looking at this product:
Yeah that’s actually what I was thinking, lol. I wish I could try this out but I don’t have a Uhost. Maybe someone that has one could do a little test to confirm.
I need to revise what I said here. The WIDI Jack’s USB-C out is only used for power and will not send MIDI data. The MC6PRO HOST and DEVICE ports can both send MIDI data. This is why I was thinking the UHOST would work.
