Newbie MIDI question about CC changes and pedals that don't have presets but do have MIDI

I’ve tried to search for the answer to this, but the words are so common that I haven’t had any luck.

Let’s say I have 3 pedals and they all have MIDI, but none of them have the ability to store presets and each have 20 MIDI-controllable parameters.

When using the MC6Pro to create presets for these pedals, do I need to set every single parameter for all 3 pedals in every preset in case the previous preset modified a given value?

Hi,
you could set up a single preset that works as a ‘reset’ and store this anywhere on the MC. If you programm an ‘engage preset’ which triggers said preset as msg 1 to all of your other presets, you’d always start at a default state.
Then you’d only have to worrie about parameters you actually want to change.

Thanks for the reply! Does that mean the answer to my question is effectively “yes!” ?

Not really, it depends on how you use your pedals.
For example, if you never change the volume you wouldn’t have to include a message to manage the volume.
If you always use your presets in a fixed order you’d only have to include messages to manage parameters you’ve changed in the previous preset and for those you want to change in the current preset.
If you want to have the flexibility to use your presets in any order the method i’ve described in my previous post would be the most efficient way to do this.
If you always tweak every parameter then the answer would be ‘yes’. In that case it would be more efficient not to ‘reset’ the pedal.

Thanks for confirming!

For me my first page is a set list where each footswitch takes me to a different bank. On entering a bank for a song it sets every pedal to the intro of the song. My presets in that bank just change one or two pedals within the song so I don’t have to send tons of messages to cancel out anything that could accidently get pressed.

I don’t know If that helps at all, but it might.
