New MC8 Pro on Latest Firmware Randomly Restarting in Editor

Hey there. I’ve seen this topic before without a resolution. My newly purchased MC8 Pro has restarted itself three times in the last half hour while using the editor.

I am using the USB cable that came with the unit and it is plugged into the Device port on the Morningstar and directly into a USB port on a Mac Mini M2 Pro. I have the Morningstar on a 9V power supply that provides up to 2A. Using the web editor in Chrome. I’m on firmware 3.13.6

The device restarts itself and the web editor goes back to the connection screen. The device is listed and I click connect. Just an annoying bug when I’m in the middle of an edit. It’s also happened on a settings screen. Seems to happen randomly, not necessarily when I’m clicking anything (on the device or the editor).

Is there anything connected to the MIDI Inputs on the MC8 PRO when this happening? How about other softwares that can be potentially sending MIDI to the MC8 PRO?

A couple of common causes for this behaviour is:

  1. MIDI Loop where midi is being sent and is travelling in a loop between the MIDI Output and other connected devices that is sending them back to the MC8 PRO MIDI Input
  2. The MC8 PRO is receiving CC messages on it’s MIDI channel that is triggering certain functions, like Engage Preset. A stream of CC messages that triggers this function would cause it to hang.

Try setting your MC8 PRO MIDI Channel to “Ignore MIDI” and let me know if the issue persists for you.

Nothing is connected to the MC8 PRO. Just the one USB cable going to the computer. No other software running besides Google Chrome for the Editor.
