Morningstar ML5 PC2 issue

I’m using a MC8 with a ML5 switcher. I’m having an issue with the ML5 not wanting to only switch on “B”. For example, in the editor, PC2 should only switch on B. However, it turns on both A and B. A and B should only turn on using PC number 3. All my other PC numbers appear to be working correctly. PC2 is the only one that I’m having an issue with. I’ve only noticed this since the latest firmware update. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it or not. Has anyone else run into this?

Hi. You should be using CC messages to toggle on/off individual loops, not PC messages. PC messages recall presets, and in your case it looks like you have both loops A and B active in preset 2. We explain how to use both PC and CC messages with the ML5 in this video:

Since I’m not using my MC 8 as stomp box mode and more like the first part of the video, I have been sending PC messages to the ML5. PC 1-31 will give me any combination of active loops (see pic). I typically use one switch on the MC 8 for each song preset. So for example, switch G is sending PC messages to the Timeline, Big Sky, and ML 5 all for one song (see pic). This is how I’ve been setting up my songs for the last couple of years with no issues. It’s just in the last couple of weeks that I’ve noticed the issue with trying to only engage loop B on the ML5.

Have you tried relearning the ML5 preset for PC#2? Unless there are other MIDI messages being sent to the ML5 on MIDI channel 3, there should be no reason for loop A to be engaging as well.

I can’t believe I didn’t try that! That worked! Not sure how it got changed. Thank you so much for your help!
