can I connect to the mobile editor using CME-PRO WIDI master?
If so how?
Or can I only use the CME PRO WIDI JACK?
Can Morningstar create a definitive Article / user guide on the subject of using WIDI with their controllers and their editors?

You should be able to use either.
Yes, you can definitely use either. As I type this, my MC6 Pro with WIDI Master is connected to the Morningstar Editor on my iPhoneâŚ.and iPad also works, obviously. Iâve also tested extensively with the MC8 Pro and WIDI devices.
I have done a bit of work on this. Hope it helps someone.
See below
Thanks to Gary
I have managed to get the Mobile editor running on my iPad Pro to connect with the MC8 using both the CME PRO WIDI JACK and also the WIDI MASTER devices. Great!!
IPAD PRO Gotchas:
*And it must show the correct WIDI device connected.
MC8 has to have âcross midi thruâ turned ON
Make sure that the IPAD Bluetooth settings page shows the WIDI device CONNECTED
AND the Morningstar APP page has access to IPAD Bluetooth
EDITOR
Then Fire up the Morningstar Mobile Editor
The Landing Page displays âLIVE EDITORâ / â DEVICESâ
NOTE: the Front Page of the editor on IPAD PRO is laid out differently to the iphone page
Choose âDevicesâ - and then select the correct WIDI device
Then Go to previous page and select âLIVE EDITORâ - and it should connect
*Make sure that MIDIMTTR & IOS BLUETOOTH show the CORRECT DEVICE, as it tends to stay in the Bluetooth memory.
This is where I kept falling over - you have to choose the LATEST VERSION of the Editor, that only displays the MC8 PRO controller - Version 3.13 even though you are using the MC8 - (which has to have its firmware updated to v3.13 to work)!!
(*I kept trying the v3.12 for the MC8.)
*All now working well.
The only other issue is how to successfully âbridge the gapâ from the MC8 (on its own board) and connect to the first pedal in the Pedalboard MIDI chain of 5 FX pedalsâŚ..
*This was the most important reason I started this!
Adding WIDI to a MIDI CHAIN OF PEDALS
As both devices use the âMIDI OUTâ port of the FX Pedal - for power? -
how do I physically connect the WIDI Device to begin the MIDI chain -
using the (Strymon) FX PEDAL âMIDI INâ & âMIDI OUTâ Din5 sockets -
and still get a MIDI IN/OUT ?
Q: Does this have anything to do with the âWIRED MIDI THROUGHâ option for the WIDI MASTER in the CME WIDI APP?
See attached screenshot below.
Here is the text of the CME-PRO WIDI APP help-
Wired MIDI Thru
When connecting USB or wired. MIDI, you may need to send MIDI messages from the wired input back to the wired output.
For example, on the Roland V-Accordion, USB soft thru must be enabled to play the internal sound when the instrument is in USB MIDI mode; or you intend to use a WIDI Master/ WIDI Jack to connect the wired MIDI OUT and IN of two different MIDI devices.
You can use this function to route the wired input directly back to the wired output as a pass-through function or for daisy chaining.
Bluetooth MIDI is not affected (Bluetooth MIDI input is not returned to Bluetooth MIDI output).
I have also had feedback from CME-PRO support on how to use the WIDI JACK as a WIDI connection to the first FX PEDAL in a MIDI CHAIN.
** You can use our WIDI Jack with external 5v power to connect the MIDI In port of your first pedal.**
On what to use for external power - 5v USB-C
** You can use any USB 5v power adapter or power bank, or use a step down regulator cable to convert 9v power to 5v USB-C from your 9v pedalboard power supply**
UPDATE
CME-PRO SUPPORT came through for me regarding the CONNECTION to the MIDI IN of my FX PEDAL - the first in the MIDI chain on my board.
I have tested out using the WIDI MASTER on my MC8 ( to connect to the editor) - this works OK.
Also have used the WIDI JACK (powered externally by a cheap usb-c power supply) and connected the WIDI JACK MIDI IN SOCKET with the MIDI IN of the FX pedal with a 5 din cable that fitted the WIDI Jack (CME-PRO TYPE âBâ - bought separately).
The start of the midi chain is then cabled to the Din5 midi out of the FX Pedal.
Didnât work at first - then remembered to push the slider on the WIDI JACK to âtype Bâ.
And run MIDITTR in the background.
Voila! All working now!
A bit of lag when using âlong press scrollâ actions - to scroll through presets- but it gets there - by stepping through the received commands with a small lag time when you take your foot of the switch.
Will check out switch sensitivity on the MC8.
Havenât visited CME-PRO WIDI âgroupsâ yet - but will do later
I always thought itâs was strange that the CME widi devices come with the switch defaulted to the opposite of the cables they sell with the device.
Only the 2.5mm to DIN5 CME cables are Type B. The WIDI Jack and Uhost need to be set to Type A for their other cables.
