Midi Message Converter

Hi,

I’m trying to convert PC messages from an Akai midi keyboard at input to control some presets on the MC.

This works but the incoming midi messages still pass through on the channel the Akai has send them on. (Channel 9). Is there a way to avoid this?

The MIDI message converter and MIDI Thru are separate, so if you have the MIDI message converted, but MIDI Thru is on, then the MIDI message will still be passed through.

It sounds logical to have a setting to disable this though. what model are you using?

Ok, thanks for your answer. I’m using a MC8 Pro. Unfortunatly I have to have through enabled, because the main purpose of the AKAI is to control/play a sampleplayer down the MIDI chain.

I’m trying to use some of the trigger pads of the AKAI to engage presets on the MC. The MIDI channel those pads are sending on is a global setting, that’s why I have to use the message converter.

Do you think it would be feasable to do it the other way around? That being sending MIDI on the MC’s channel and use the converter to trigger samples on the sample player? Keep in mind I’d use those pads mainly for drum samples. Any latency would be a dealbreaker.

What I can try which makes sense (so that it does not break other user’s workflow) is to not pass the MIDI messages through if they have been converted at the input. After all, converting it at the input would mean that you want that message to be processed by the controller.

You can try this attached firmware:
2025-10-28_MC8_PRO_Firmware_v_3_13_6_251028464.hex (1.7 MB)
I’ll also look into the possibility of adding an additional option instead i.e. map at input, map at output, map at input but dont pass thru

Ideally it would be a setting that can be changed on preset level. I can think of scenarios where someone would want to have the original message pass through for single events.

Sure, we can likely give the user some control over the message converter with a new message type.

Have you looked into a midi/message translator like Bome? Once you get the lay of the land it would be pretty easy to convert the message from your Akai to your MorningStar via Bome and have Bome swallow the original message

Hi,

thanks for the suggestion. I do know of the Bome. While it is a neat tool it’s quite pricey. I’d prefer not to throw that money out to solve a single issue. Especially when the MC tackles all of my other needs when it comes to routing capabilities
