MIDI Clock stopped sending to devices after v3.12 update!

I recently updated to v3.12.

Upon doing so my MIDI Clock stopped sending to my devices.

Before you comment, I’ve already checked ALL of the obvious spots…

  1. Check new features in Controller Settings >> General Config (default MIDI clock ports)
  2. Check new features in Controller Settings >> MIDI Channel (MIDI channel ports and channel remap)

I’m only using my Omniports (TRS) to send information to my Strymon pedals & Eventide H9.

Can someone take a look at my file, and see where I’m going wrong…please?

I’m sure it’s something simple that I’m missing, but I’m making myself crazy looking for it.

Thank you in advance!

It might be because the device is connected to the editor. There is a 3second timeout for MIDI clock if the device is communicating with the editor as MIDI clock affects the communication.

Thank you for the reply!

Unfortunately, I’ve tried sending the MIDI Clock when disconnected from the Editor, still w/ no success.

Ok, checking now and will update soon.

** Just loaded your bank file and tested the omniports (sending MIDI to a Timeline) without any issues.

Just to confirm, your controller is showing the BPM value in red (with the dot blinking) when you are testing it right? If the BPM is black and not blinking then the controller is not generating any MIDI clock.

Only MIDI clock is not working with your devices? How about PC/CC messages?

James, you have hit the nail on the head!

So, the tempos displays in red for a quick second then go black.

And yes, the ONLY the MIDI Clock isn’t working…PC/CC messages send just fine.

How can I get the controller to generate the MIDI clock again? The only thing that changed was the firmware, on my end.

Can you share a screenshot of the preset you are using the start the MIDI clock so I can try to replicate the problem?

If you have not enabled “MIDI Clock Persist” in the controller settings, please try that and it might help with the issue.

Another possible scenario for this is if the MC is receiving MIDI clock from an external source, which will stop it’s internal MIDI clock.

Each and every preset I use, does the same thing…even if I set a preset as MIDI Tap, it clocks the tap for a second, then reverts back to a black number.

I’ve already tried toggling on MIDI persist, it didn’t help unfortunately.

The only three pedals I have connected to it are a Strymon BRIG, Strymon Cloudburst, and a Eventide H9.

I will look into the settings now and see if either H9 or BRIG are sending clock…
The only puzzling thing is, that they were ALL receiving the MIDI clock from the MC6 PRO just fine prior to the latest firmware update.
And, i haven’t changed ANY of the internal settings on any of them, other than the MC6 Pro.

Again, I really appreciate your help w this!

Update:

Still no luck.

I’ve checked settings on all 3 of my connected devices, and I have all of the MIDI out’s turned off…so, they aren’t sending clock.

So, I think the problem is within the MC6 Pro…for whatever reason that MIDI clock keeps turning black. If we can figure out why and how to fix it.

What’s the MIDI connection like? Is there anything connected to the MC6 PRO MIDI Input?

I just looked through again the conditions that will turn MIDI clock off and it’s likely that it is receiving MIDI Clock from an external source. Can you try turning on the Ignore MIDI Clock setting in the controller settings and see if this resolves the issue?

Okay, so good news…this sort of fixed it.

The MIDI clock does in fact send now, and turns red.

The only issue now, is that there seems to be a fairly long delay before this happens.

At least a full second or two.

(it’s almost like watching the MC6 Pro think…ignore the (incoming) clock…then send to my other pedals).

My MIDI In/Out jacks have a WIDI Jack attached to it…
But, I had this device occupying those ports, before the update and it was sending very quick. (likely the culprit tho)

The only other thing connected to the MC6 Pro, is the 4th Omniport is connected to a MIDI Out panel on my board. But, nothing is ever connected to it.

I have the same issue after updating the firmware - it takes quite a while to send the midi clock data.

Sounds like its related to that MIDI clock timeout behaviour I mentioned earlier. Can you confirm that the MC6PRO isn’t in editor mode?

Confirmed. Definitely not in editor mode when experiencing this.

@james Was any solution found for this? I’m on the latest firmware and since upgrading a few months ago am experiencing a similar issue when changing banks. On bank change a fast MIDI clock signal that bears to relationship to the MIDI clock of the bank is sent to my Timeline. I then hit the first preset button and usually nothing happens and then a second preset after a few seconds and the new MIDI clock time for that banks finally engages. I can work around this somewhat by just pressing presets a few times after bank changes, but it’s a pain and not what was happening previously.
Just to add, this happens regardless of whether I’m in editor mode or not.

Is it the latest v3.12.13 firmware? Can you share your “all banks” back up file and let me know which bank/preset to look at to replicate the issue?

Thanks James. Yes I’ve updated to the latest 3.12.13 firmware. Entering pretty much any of the banks will do it from Bank 11 onwards (these are the song banks with presets per song section). The main issue is that there’s a big delay from entering the bank before pressing / releasing any of the preset switches will update the MIDI tempo (somewhere from 3-5 secs) and generally seems to require hitting either the same one switch twice or two different ones.
