Midi clock issue with MC6 Pro, WIDIs uHost and Thru6 BT

Hi,
I’m facing an issue with MC6 Pro, WIDIs uHost and Thru6 BT concerning Midi Clock Tap, to sync Tap tempo to my guitar pedals (Walrus Mako D1 and M1).

Setup :

  • MC6Pro connected to Widi uHost, via USB C.
  • Widi Thru 6 BT connected to Walrus’ pedals via DIN cables.

I have a preset on action Press to Midi Clock Tap.
It doesn’t work when the two Widi devices are paired.
I already set the MIDI Clock Port Settings to “Select All”.

I noticed that it works fine when I connect directly from MC6 Pro to Widi Thru6 BT via DIN or mini jack cable.

I contacted CME, here’s their answer :

"
WIDI will not filter any MIDI messages, so the WIDI Uhost should be able to transmit all MIDI message to WIDI Master including the MIDI Clock.

Please check your MC6 Pro settings (or ask Morningstar) and see if the MIDI clock messages will be sent from USB port compare to MIDI port. Also When you test WIDI Uhost, please disconnect the TRS MIDI connection from WIDI Thru6 BT, otherwise two clock messages will conflict to each other.
"

Thanks for your reply.

When you say it doesn’t work, does the MIDI Clock send from the MC6 PRO? BPM label color will turn RED) or does it turn RED and then BLACK (which means that clock sending has stopped)?

If it is the latter, that means that the MC6 PRO is receiving clock from an external source (probably the MIDI Clock send from the MC and then it travels back to the MIDI IN port).

The WIDI Jack should blink each time a MIDI message is sent, so you can verify if the clock is being sent from the MC6 PRO as well.

BPM Label color turned RED then BLACK (sometimes it was 5bpm (!)).
The light of Widi uHost was blinking only once, when I hit Tap preset button.
You were right, it was certainly a travel back from Midi IN port.

I resolved the problem by enabling “Ignore Midi Clock” in General Configuration. Now it’s OK, Widi uHost blinks multiple times and pedals get tempo.
Was it the right thing to do ?
