I’ve been trying to setup buttons for the LVX looper using the MC6 Pro. I’ve successfully setup a bank that has the proper CC messages for Record/Overdub (CC# 100) and Loop/Play (CC# 101).
This works perfectly. I also have the Bank where the looper CC’s are working in Looper Mode.
The issue arises when I try to have the color of the switches on the MC6 Pro match the behavior of the LEDs on the LVX. The LVX is not on the pedalboard, so having an exact replica of the state of its switches on the MC6 Pro would be ideal. I’m finding this very difficult to do.
The main issue is the way the Record button works on the LVX. From an idle (loop off) state, one tap of the Record button lights it up and starts recording. A second tap enters into overdub mode (so it stays lit) and engages the LED of the Play switch. A third tap of the Record button turns the record LED off but keeps the play LED on.
This behavior changes if I hit the Record button WHILE playing a loop. In this situation, when the Play button is pressed and it’s LED is lit, one tap of the Record button starts recording (Recording LED on), but the next tap turns recording off (LED off).
So the recording button has two different behaviors, depending on where you’re coming from:
1: If starting from an idle state: Record (Led On), Overdub Enabled (Led On), Overdub Disable (Led Off).
2. If pressed while playing a loop: Overdub (Led On), Overdub Disable (Led Off).
I have experimented with multiple uses of the Shift and Shift+ states, as well as starting a bank from the Shift state… but I just can’t get it to perform all the functions without eventually loosing sync of the MC6 Pro display with the LVX.
I hope the above makes sense. Any help or tips would be appreciated! It feels like the only way to do this would be with a conditional function, based on the status of the Play button (as far as I know, the MC6 Pro can’t do this)… but if anyone has a clue as to how to get this with the current available functions, please let me know!

Hi,
the conditinal function might come in the future, I’ve discussed this topic with @james and he showed interest in this idea, but it might take some time.
I think it should be possible to set up two presets to mimic the behaviour you’ve described functionally, if you ditch the idea of replicating it exactly.
I’ve set up a bank for my RC 500 to do something like that, using two footswitches (Rec/Dub/Play and Play/Stop).
The preset color strip will always show what will happen next if the fs gets pressed. I use the bank color strip to indicate the current status of the looper.
I could drop a bank backup by tomorrow, if you are interested.
It would need some modification, but it might help to get you started
Hi, thanks for your response!
I would love to see your bank backup, thanks so much for offering.
I’ve gotten pretty close to matching it, but it’s not exact. I also want to believe that it I possible to do it with the current feature set (without the conditional function), but I just haven’t beeb clever enough to figure it out. Hopefully your bank gives me some ideas.
Appreciate it!
Hi, we had to re-schedule rehearsel, I will upload the backup on sunday.
I could share an all banks backup but the firmware was outdated and you’d have to backup your controller before uploading it
Thanks for the upload.
I did check out what you have on the google drive as of now (Friday afternoon)
I wanted to clarify a few things, to make sure I understand (also, upon loading your json file for some reason some of my banks and all my Midi Channel Settings remained, so I want to make sure I’m not mixing up your file and my settings).
It looks like Preset C on Bank 1 loads a Looper page, which is on Bank4. Is that correct?
Bank 4 is empty at the moment, but I assume that’s where your looper settings are (on the file you are as of yet to upload)?
I was looking at your Bank 3 (C4 Control). Just curious, what device is this Bank controlling? I’m especially intrigued by Preset F (Volume). If you don’t mind, could you explain why you are using the Release action, as opposed to a Press? It looks like this preset alternates between Exp Message 1 on Position 1 and no message on Position 2, while both switches send Exp Message 2. Then Shift sends no messages at all, but only while held down. Is that correct?
Finally… why do you have an action to dis-engage the shift state? Is it to always guarantee you go back to Position 1, regardless of what position the switch is in prior to getting into the Shift state?
Sorry to bombard you with questions, but I’m just trying to really understand how this device work.
Thanks so much for your time and your willingness to share!
Sounds like the file is corrupted, I’ll check that tomorrow.
That’s correct
I’m going to upload that, but it should be there already
A Source Audio C4 Synth
No, it toggles from do nothing, to volume, to mix. But it might be broken somehow.
Thanks for the reply.
In regards to the uploading of files to the MC6, what I did was to backup my preset and upload yours. Is this the preferred way to do it?
After uploading your file, all my midi devices and some of my banks remained…. Should I have deleted/factory reset my device before uploading?
It’s probably a firmware issue.
You shouldn’t have to reset the controller.
You could try to import the bank via setlist editor. Maybe that will work
I just used the setlist editor to import.
Here are the Banks that are loading:
Do you use a Mercury X, Pog3 and LVX?
As of now, I don’t see the Press Release actions on the presets, so I’m assuming its closer to what you meant to send.
These are the presets I see on bank 3 (C4 Control):
Let me know if this is close to what you meant so send.
Thanks!
Nope,
I’m going to bring my MC home today. I will upload a bank backup of my Looper and C4 bank this evening.
Thanks a lot!
I just matched the firmware of my controller to yours and did a factory reset. I uploaded both files you sent.
Can you confirm which Boss RC unit you’re using? Just so I can get the MIDI manual to make sure I completely understand the messages you’re sending.
I want to make sure these are uploading properly. I’m getting an error message on the unit as I upload, but the presets appear to be there.
Can you confirm, for what I think is the RC bank, Preset 1 is labeled Record (with a toggle name of Play and a Shift state of Dub). It has 11 messages. The last three are Press Action. You are sending a Utility type message for Pos1 on Message 9, Pos2 on Message 10 and Shift State on Message 11. Is this correct?
Here is a picture of the presets I’m seeing on this bank:
I just want to make sure the messages are loading properly before I try to sit down and dissect your presets.
Thanks again for sharing all of this. I really appreciate it!
Hi,
the presets in your screenshot are correct.
The looper is an RC 500, but I’m afraid the manual won’t be of much help, because the CCs aren’t fixed. One has to assign those themselves on boss units.
The 500 series have a quirk. You have to send two CC messages at once to perform a single action (always value 0 and 127). That’s why there are so many midi messages.
What’s most interesting for you are the device messages (toggles, change color etc.)
Here is how the presets are supposed to interact:
On enter you’ll see
Clear (preset D)
Record (preset A)
Play (preset B)
Pressing ‘Clear’ will send a message to stop the loop and delete it. Presets A and B will be toggled back to their initial position.
‘Record’ triggers rec/dub/play on the RC
‘Play’ triggers play/stop on the RC
The presets will interact with each other. The color strip will indicate what message will be send next if the corresponding foot switch is pressed.
To indicate the current status of the looper I’ve added messages to change the color and name of the middle strip.
