I am syncing my MC8 (Firmware 3.11.1) to the MIDI Clock from my Elektron Model:Cycles (OS 1.13), but the MC8 is consistently running a faster clock than the Cycles, causing my loops/delays to run out of sync - e.g. 120BPM on the Cycles becomes 126 on the MC8, 140 becomes 148 and so on - it used to work just fine AFAIK.
I’ve narrowed it down to being related to MIDI Thru - the problem persists when MIDI Thru is turned ON, and seems to pass a slightly faster clock to the rest of my devices. When MIDI Thru is turned OFF, the clock on the MC8 matches the Cycles, but the tempo isn’t transmitted downstream.
I’ve experimented with Ignore MIDI Clock, but with that turned ON my downstream devices don’t react to tempo changes from the Cycles.
I’m not able to test this right now as I’m out of office, but is there anything connected to the MIDI Input of the Elektron Model:Cycles? Just wondering if there’s a MIDI Loop happening that is causing the clock to speed up due to the MIDI clock messages being multiplied.
Can you try, if possible, reverting to firmware v3.10, to see if the same issue persists for you? AFAIK, the MIDI Thru setting is unrelated to the clock calculation.
No, the Model:Cycles is first in MIDI chain, connected to MC8 as the first subsequent device - there shouldn’t be any loops happening.
Reverting back to firmware v3.10 reverts the issue, and going back to 3.11 brings the issue back.
I’ll leave the device at 3.10 for the time being, cheers
