Hi everyone, I need a bit of help with my MC8 Pro.
I’m trying to use the toe-down switch in a Mission expression pedal to turn on/off a wah block on a Quad Cortex which lives offstage. The switch is plugged into omniport 2 and set up as a TRS Aux Switch. I can’t find how to get the switch to send the correct CC message (CC#2) to the Quad Cortex… Google suggests this might not be possible?
The only workaround I’ve got working is setting up a preset footswitch toggle on a different page (Preset L) to send this CC, and the TRS Aux switch toggles this preset.
The only problem is, when changing between presets in the MC8 Pro, the Quad Cortex is receiving a message to keep the wah block ‘on’.
Where am I going wrong here? Thanks!
@james Am I missing the correct way to achieve this? Is the Or is it likely / feasible that external switches in the omniports of the MC8 Pro will ever be able to send CC messages to external devices (on specific midi channels)? Is that a possible firmware update in the future?
From what I see that switch is latching, so I would think you’d want your preset L (in your case) to have a Press action to send CC 2 127, and a Release action to send CC 2 0. How do you have it set up currently?
Hey thanks for the reply, the Mission pedal is an SP-1 but it actually has a momentary switch in it (I replaced the latching one myself) - I forgot to mention I had already set those exact settings (CC#2 set to 0 on one press and 127 on another press) in Preset L, it works fine to turn the wah on / off in the QC, the problem is when going between other presets (A-H for example) the wah then gets turned on on every preset for some reason. Which I would like to stop happening
my guess would be that you switch presets on the cortex, which have an active wha block? In that case youd have to send an ‘wah off’ message if you change presets, as well as a set toggle to keep your on/off preset in sync.
Thanks @GuitarWolf , I forgot to mention on the QC I’m changing scenes within a preset for more seamless sound changes, and yes there are scenes that have an active wah block. I had tried what you’re suggesting, it works although the wah is active (and audible) for a fraction of a second with every scene change which is annoying.
I assume you have things set up so that you press switch A on the MC8 and it sends a message to the QC to change to Scene 1 (or whatever).
Look at your outgoing midi. Are you saying that the MC8 is sending both the scene change message and a wah on (CC 2) message? That shouldn’t be happening.
I would start by being clear about exactly what midi you want the MC8 to send when you press a particular button. If it’s sending something different then it should be fairly easy to figure out why.
