MC8 Pro anytime soon?

As they get bigger with more buttons I think usability would improve a lot with separate displays for each button. Like you see on the Helix, RJM Masterminds, Headrush, and a number of desktop DAW controllers like the X-Touch, Presonus Faderport, etc.

So far the ones I’ve seen like that tend to use mono displays with what looks like RGB backlight (RJM, X-Touch) or mono displays with an RGB button ring. Those are functional, but certainly not as pretty as the MC6 Pro.

I’d love to see Morningstar find a way to make an affordable MC8 Pro or MC12 Pro with full color OLED individual button displays, but the costs for the displays and the extra circuitry one needs to control them starts to add up. But James is a clever guy, so who knows.

Hi what size with mc-8 pro be as I have the mc-8 to replace my Gigrig G2 ,not yet takern it out of its box ,will my mc-8 work with two ml-10

Regards Si

Any news on the MC8 pro?

I know this may not be on the radar for Morningstar but I’d love an MC8 and ML10x in one box. I’d pay for a bigger flagship box and an extension box if one wanted extra foot switches. I love the editor and the midi controllers as is, but combining them would compete against the other options out there in my opinion. Maybe a buffered input and output. I was looking at the new fender switchboard and it’s not close to what you guys offer in functionality or style. Until thin my studio board with MC8 + extension box + ML10x + ML5 will have to do. But it’s a lot on my board. One box to rule them all would be sick.

As a delighted MC6 PRO user I’m also very much looking forward to an MC8 PRO.

A couple of suggestions if I may:

Please add power input to the MIDI OUT DIN connector (which also allows MIDI in). The MC6 PRO only provides this on MIDI IN.

If the top panel has the same slope as the MC6 PRO, we really only need short-shaft footswitches across the top row. They seem to be crazy high otherwise IMHO.

best wishes

Is that allowed in the MIDI spec?

The MC8 has power on the midi out DIN which I use. I hope we’re not going to lose that?

Power input doesn’t affect MIDI using a standard MIDI cable. It uses additional pins to accept power input. The idea is to connect a single 7-pin cable to connect MIDI OUT, MID IN, and power.

As Hawkins76 pointed out, power input is already provided on the MIDI IN DIN socket. I’m suggesting it be also provided on the MIDI OUT socket.

cheers

@james ,
Can I be the first to pre-ordre MC8 Pro, please?

I would support this if I can be the 2nd

Are you referring to pins 6&7 on the MIDI OUTPUT for phantom power? Both the MIDI Input and MIDI Output are 7 pins, where pins 6&7 can be used to receive power. If you are referring to the power source from the MIDI pins to power other peripherals like the WIDI Jack, only the MIDI Output provides power for this, and not the MIDI Input.

Typically, it is pins 6&7 on the MIDI Output that received phantom power. So the MIDI device like the Fractal Audio AxeFX2 would be the one providing phantom power to the MIDI Output on the MC6 PRO on pins 6&7.

Thanks for your interest! Everything else is mostly done but we’re still working on the code for the bluetooth aspect.

Thanks for your reply, James

Yes, I am referring to pins 6 & 7 on what’s labelled as “MIDI OUT”. I have the MC6PRO and pins 6 & 7 are not connected to anything on the MIDI OUT DIN socket, only on MIDI IN.

My request is to make it also available on the MIDI OUT socket. So no change to MIDI OUT on pins 4 & 5, MIDI IN on pins 1 & 2, but add power input to pins 6 & 7.

cheers

Hi James – Do you have final dimensions you can please share?

Yes, for the enclosure, it is 260mm x 123mm x 53mm

Can’t wait. Just take my money! :moneybag: :leftwards_hand:

Is there an updated time frame?

We are manufacturing a small batch (about 50) now (this will take about 2 months), then sending some for certification and testing.

Might start selling some at a discounted price just to start getting it used out there for feedback on the software - I can’t confirm this yet

Thanks for the interest!

Yay I’ve been watching this thread for a year lol
Would love to be a tester if you decide to go for that option! Or just preorder as soon as possible :)))))

Hi James, I’d love to be a tester!

I have over 30 years experience designing, building & programming MIDI foot-controllers. My first was all done in hardware, then programming micro controllers, also firmware for a range of commercally previously-available MFCs. I’ve even built my own DMX (lighting) foot-controller.

kind regards,
GM Arts

Hi James

So am I. I would love to get one of those and give you a complete feedback regarding my previous posts :star_struck:
