MC8 MIDI out to Disaster Area midi box issue

My MC8 is currently connected to my DA midi box by 5 pin din midi cable from the mc8 midi out, and it works fine. However, I need to change it so that an omniport is used to send midi to the midi box from the mc8, and I just can’t get it to work, at all. I need to do this as I need the mc8’s midi ports free for adding wireless midi.

I’m using omniport 4, with a trs to 5 pin midi cable connecting it to the midi box’s midi in port. I’ve also tried various other cables, some the same type, some different ways of joining trs and midi din - and nothing works at all.

in the Morningstar editor I’ve set the omniport to midi type a, but have also tried the other types available in there with no success. All midi messages are also set to output to omniport 4, too

Has anyone done this successfully please, and what could be wrong in my setup? I really want this to work as I just can’t afford to upgrade to an mc8 pro right now..

For that 5 pin to TRS MIDI cable that you are using to connect the Omniport to the MIDI Box, did you check what is the wiring (Type A, B or something else)? Do you have a link to where you purchased it from?

If it’s a random Amazon “TRS to MIDI” cable, some of those are notorious for not being wired correctly for any MIDI, so you need to be sure that it’s actually one of those standards. Type A or Type B, just set your Omniport to output MIDI accordingly.

The most recent cable was indeed from Amazon - the others I’m not sure about as I’ve had them ages.

I’ll look at some of my normal cable shops and try again - cheers all!

Also, you should be able to just connect the loop through the MIDI Box, since it’s just a through box:

MC8 DIN OUT => Disaster Area DIN IN/OUT => Wireless Adapter IN / OUT => MC8 DIN IN.
