MC8 freezing on stage

Hi guys,

so I am on tour right now and played my 3rd show with the MC8 to control my rig.
Tonight it froze onstage during the set (!) 3 to 4 times. Only solution was to unplug it and power it back on. Super frustrating and a total mood killer for the crowd.

I have an external 3 switch extension from Pedalnetics connected as well as 2 expression pedals on the omniports. I don’t recall the freezing happened after using them specificly though.

I read that several people had problems with the united freezing over the last years and now it happend to me too. as said first 2 shows went fine. I have changed nothing though. I also have the latest software as far as I know.

Is there any help out there to prevent it from happening again?
I mean that is a major problem and should not happen at all in a professional environment.
Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you!!

Can you let me know what firmware version you are using (shown on startup)?

Assuming that it is the controller hanging,
If possible, you can email us your “all banks” backup file so we can take a look at how you programmed it. Let me know which bank you were on when it happened.

Since you mentioned you have an aux switch connected, another likelihood of this “hanging” behaviour is that the controller is reading a switch being pressed down due to a faulty TRS cable connected to the aux switch, or the aux switch itself, where the tip and/or ring is being shorted to ground. If the controller seems like it is stuck, try removing the cables connected to the omniport and see if it resolves the issue for you.

Hi James,

FIRMWARE v3.12.6.240208439

Which email do you want me to send the backup file to? Next show is Saturday (whole Euro tour!)

Thanks!!

You can send it to help@morningstarfx.com

Also, how much current are you supplying the MC8?

Email sent.

9 volt. Professional power supply.

Just FYI from the manual… would be worth checking that your 9v outlet (I guess it’s isolated?) is giving the amount of power your MC and it’s connections needs…

The MC6 PRO requires at least 350mA of power at 9VDC.

More power is required if you are using the USB Host port to power other devices.

If you are NOT using the TRS Relay ports and USB Host port, 250mA is enough.

When connecting a USB Device to the USB Host port, the USB Device may be drawing power from the USB Host port. If so, there will be increased power requirements for the MC6 PRO. Please ensure that you are supplying your MC6 PRO with adequate power.

It’s a MC 8 .
But still if you connect it to a 100 mA it might tank.

Thanks for the heads up!

it is actually getting 300 mA.

i AM using the the TRS Relay ports though.

Manual says it needs at least 250 mA.

Keep in mind, that an outlet doesn’t always deliver 300mA just because it says so. There is a total max vor PSUs. If the total draw is higher you might get less.

So is it a MC 6 pro then? You wrote MC 8 in the title?

it IS a MC8. Using some of the omniports.
