MC6 Pro with Kemper Player - Colour change for 2nd button press

Hi folks

Using the MC6 pro with a Kemper Profiler Player

I have managed to set my switching so that on selection of a preset the background of that preset changes from black background to red background in position one.

When I press the same preset button again which I have programmed as a boost (CC 80 Val: 127), the colour reverts back to original black colour.

Can any of you midi programming guru’s share how to get my second press to change the background colour?

In my example from red to green as opposed to it currently reverting back to original Black?.

I’ve tried numerous combinations in utility settings, using Shift Commands and tried utilising the Release command. I’ve watched numerous utube vids. But I can’t seem to find a way to get it to change to a second colour.

Effectively this is the process I need.

1st press selects preset (white txt, red background)

2nd press selects boost (CC80/127) I want green background black txt)

3rd press reverts preset to 1st preset condition white txt, red background)

It’s probably very simple but I’ve spend @20 hours on this with no success- so looking for some assistance. Thanks in advance

Hi

Did you look “Toggle Mode” at MC8 PRO ?

I’m using MC6Pro

MC8 great machine but too big

Hi,

you can use shift. Don’t use ‘toggle mode’. Programm a message with ‘release/ toggle preset/ pos1’ as the last message of your preset. Put a message with ‘release/set toggle -shift/pos2’ just before that message.

After you’ve engaged the preset for the first time it will toggle between pos2 and shift only.

@GuitarWolf Could you paste an example from the editor for this. I have done something veeery complicated with ‘On First Engage ( Send Only this) messages, background colour utility messages and ‘On Disengage’ messages …what you describe sound much simpler (I think/hope) … an actual message sequence would be great, if possible,

Many thanks

Hi @guitarWolf This is my “programmed” colour change.
I still havent figured out a way to get a third colour on 3rd button press, although JPMORNINGSTAR suggested I read an MC8 how to. Will try your suggestion as well and advise…
Hope this helps…

Hi @GuitarWolf.
Thankyou for your tips on how to acheive colour change on sequential button presses.
Your suggestions resolved my issue of changing from red to green backgrounds on subsequent button presses.
However, I now find that 3rd press now doesn’t revert to Position 1 - with no Morph/Boost engaged.
Detailed explanation in attachment.
I will keep trying different order of messages to see if I can resolve. Unless you can see where I’ve gone wrong?

Thanks again
Best Wishes

Hi,

if you want to go back to the initial state of the preset you’ll have to use a different action type like ‘double tap’.

‘Long press’ won’t work if you have press actions in your preset!

You’ll have to add four messages:

‘double tap/cc to turn off boost/pos2’

‘double tap/toggle preset/pos2’

‘double tap/cc to turn off boost/pos shift’

‘double tap/toggle preset/pos shift’

The order of the messages does matter in this case. Turn off the boost and then toggle the preset.

Hey @GuitarWolf Thanks again for your assistance! Really appreciated.

I’ve managed to get the colour toggling (RED to GREEN) working fine, along with the boost on/off (CC80/127 - CC80/0) using your suggestions.

However, Ive got one last issue -
1st Press - selects patch - changes colour from Black to Red Background. :white_check_mark:
2nd Press - engages boost (CC80/127) - changes colour from RED to GREEN :white_check_mark:
3rd Press - disengages Boost (CC80/0) - reverts back to Position 1 with a Black Background :red_question_mark: **

Do you know of some additional command to revert to 1st Position with the Red Background ?**
I’m unsure if it’s even possible - I’ve spend most of today trying various options, and changing the order of commands to no avail.

Attached is my detailed program steps.
I decided to use “Release” commands as opposed to “Double Taps”, as my pedal board is very small and double taps are fraught with possible error on my behalf.

That’s probably part of the issue. The MC can’t know if you want to perform a press or a release action. Every actual press on the switch will also trigger a release if you let go of the switch. If you want to be able to cycle pos2 and shift by pressing the switch you can’t expect the MC to know when not to perform this task when pressing the switch. Hence you have to use a different action type to indicate that you want to do something different.

I do also believe there is a misunderstanding of how positions work. Your initial state with the black background is position 1. The red background is position 2 and green would be position shift.

Can you confirm that you understood that correctly? If there is some confusion we are simply talking about different things.

Try this.

This preset uses ‘long press’ to turn off the boost and reset the preset when in pos2 or shift.

Use ‘load from file’ to load the preset

Hey @GuitarWolf …your a legend… thanks for taking the time to explain.

Yes, again your correct….
It’s clear I’m not understanding pos1/pos2/pos3 (shift) as the MC6Pro implements.
To try and explain, and answer your question, in my case, I’m trying to get the MC6Pro to closely emulate the functions of a Kemper Floorboard- where each button represents a different patch. Each of 6 buttons has a second & alternating position. (after patch selection each button cycles a second pos)

When MC6Pro boots up - all 6 buttons/patches are “deselected” - and visually all show a Black Background. Audibly - last selected patch is active (but not visible)

pos1 patch is selected (changes background to red) - now shows which patch is selected.
pos2 patch morphed (or in my case boosted) (changes background to green) shows boost selected
pos3 “3rd press” to revert back to pos1 (changes background back to black- whereas I beleive it should be red - as that patch is still active & selected)
From my experience this is represented as an “either/or” programming execution.
As oposed to an “open/closed” programming execution - which is what is occurring- as patch visually reverts back to it’s original “unselected’ condition - even though the patch is still active.

Without the ability to revert to a pos1 with a red background, I am unable to quickly see what patch is selected- and its current position.
As there is no “display” on a Kemper Player- I’m relying entirely on the changed colour display ability on MC6Pro to visualise what position/patch my Kemper is in.
As I’m sure you know it’s not always possible to quickly hear this on a loud stage.
It’s really sounding like this is not possible on MC6Pro. :grimacing:

Thanks for your time and efforts on this.

I believe this is a misunderstanding.

I think what you want is to go from pos shift (=boost on) to preset selected with boost off which would be represented by pos 2 not pos1.

The preset I’ve shared will do that for you. The long press is just needed if you want to reset the preset to it’s initial state manually.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

Hi @GuitarWolf …thanks yet again for being patient with me.
Yes, you are correct.

..Appreciate all your time and effort. :star_struck:
