MC6 Pro toggle between two functions in the same preset

Hi there

I’ve bees struggling with this for two days, hoping maybe someone could assist on the matter.

I have the MC6 pro with the ml5 switcher.

This is what I’m trying to achieve -
Pressing preset C when engaging the preset - drive turns (drive is on loop b in the ml5)
2nd press an additional booster (booster in on loop c in the ml5) engages and both are on.
I want to be able to toggle between these 2 presets and that the labeling will still show that the preset in on.
If I just toggle between position 1 and 2 the labeling changes to what I have on position 1.
I want the label to change only when I move t a different preset.

Any ideas?

Eran

My suggestion would be to program a single press to activate an ml5 preset with the drive in. Then have a double tap activate an ml5 preset bringing in the boost as well. That way you got a way to go from both off to both on with a single action (double tap), as well as drive only.

I’m sure there are other ways. And in all fairness, I would have to tinker with it a while to make sure it functions as I want it to. But truly, that is the beauty and struggle of this world of midi programming.

Hi,
there are multiple ways to do this.
You could separate the preset toggle from the messages by using the ‘engage preset’ feature to either

  1. Toggle the preset between drive and drive+boost and send the actual message with a second press of the switch, or
  2. Toggle the drive on/off and add the boost using the ‘shift’ feature.
  3. Toggle between drive and drive+boost in position 2 only, by using two different action types to toggle the boost on/off.

If I understand you correctly 2. and 3. would be feasable. Which one would suit your needs best?

Thanks for your message,

I’ve tried 2 and 3.
1 I have not tried yet.

Let me explain the problems I’ve encountered with each way.
The main problem is with the color displays.
I have different labels for position 1, 2.
Position 1 I have the color strip dimmed to indicate the preset is disengaged.
Position 2 The color strip is full to show the preset is engaged and is the current preset
If I have the booster in position 2 and I toggle back to position 1, the drive is on but the color strip is dimmed thus showing the preset is disengaged.

So then I tried the following.

I put the booster in the shift state and labeled the shift state differently indicating that the booster in now in action.
Position 1 is drive on,
position 2 drive off.

My problem now was that I can’t figure out how to toggle between Shift and position 1 for
booster on/off while drive is still on.
Second problem is that when I press a diffrent preset while in position 1 on the drive, the drive preset would not go back to being off, it would still show that the drive is on.

Hi,
that are common issues people get, when setting up shift toggles for the first time. If you share a screenshot of your preset I could help to fix it.
Some sort of flow chart how the preset should actually behave would be nice, too.
Questions I’d have:

  1. Do you want to be able to toggle the boost ‘on’ by itself without the drive? (could be complicated)
  2. Do you want to be able to toggle both off when in shift state?
  3. Do you want to toggle both off when selecting another preset?
  4. Do you always want to have 3. or do you want this behaviour only for specific presets?

Here is what I would do:

  1. When engaging the preset the first time drive is set to ‘on’ (pos2)
  2. A second press toggles the boost to ‘on’ (pos shift)
  3. Third press toggles the boost ‘off’, drive stays ‘on’ (back to pos 2)
  4. Every subsequent press toggles between boost on and boost off
  5. turn the drive and/or the boost off with a long press when in pos2 or shift
  6. When engaging another drive preset both turn off

Hi
Thanks for your elaborate response.

This is exactly what I Wanted to happen:
**For some reason it’s not working for me. **
I will send a screenshot of the preset tomorrow.

Here is a screenshot of my preset

Hi,
try this and tell me if it works for you.

Hi
Well I tried it and it works partially.

I shot a video with me testing it and you can see here what happened.

Hi, would you share a screenshot of the preset you’ve programmed? Just in case you’ve missed something. Clearly something went wrong with the toggles.

Change MSG 4 Position, should be pos1 not both.

Ok
I changed it, it’s nearly perfect.
Now on the initial press, the drive kicks in.
On the next press nothing happens.
One more press booster kicks in.
From there on with each press booster toggles on and off and drive continues to work.
Long press disengages the preset.
Is it something wrong still with what I did?

I’m enclosing screen shots and a video to see.

Looks like the preset isn’t in sync with the ml5 I will try to set this up on my mc6 tomorrow. I’ll share the file if I get it to work properly.

Great, Thanks you very much!

Got it working, the problem was that ‘release’ actions paired with ‘toggle preset’ actions act weird.
But I could work around this issue.

Great,
Thank you so much. I will load it to my controller tomorrow and will test it.
In the mean time just to say how much I appreciate the effort.

Hey

So, I’ve loaded it to the mc6pro today and it works Perfectly!!

Thank you so much for this!

Nice, I’m happy to help.

Hi
It’s me again.

There’s one little thing that’s still a little off.
If I’m on the boost mode and then press on another preset, that preset does not reset to the initial mode.

This is what happens:

  1. I press the drive preset drive is on
  2. I press the switch again booster is on
  3. I press on another preset, it turns on but the indicator on the drive booster shows it stays in the boost mode.
  4. Pressing again on the drive resets it to off, I need to press it again to turn it on.

Is there a way to reset the preset when it’s in the boost mode when pressing another preset?
