MC6 Pro to SA C4 connections

Hi All - New to forum, MIDI and Morningstar.
Have spent quite a bit of time looking for answers here and elswewhere.
Hooked up my SA C4 to Neuro Desktop and and added some presets, pedal works fine.
Went though some tutorials and some great info posted by others here and fairly happy I have used the Editor correctly and the Monitor and could see changes to text etc on pedal.
Saved and exited and then looked to hook up MC6 Pro and SA C4 and ran into problems.
What options to I have for connecting them?
Tried looking at the photos of pedalboards that have been uploaded but couldn’t figure it out from them.
I have a SA168 Midi Adapter (although I believe I don’t need this with a MC6 Pro).
This came with a 5 pin female MIDI to TRRS cable which I can’t use.
I’m guessing the 3.5mm TRS out wont work with the TRRS control input on the back of the the C4.
Does a Male USB C to Male Mini USB B work?
Any help appreciated.

Hi,

Why not? You can connect the SA adapter to the 5 pin midi out of the mc and the control input of the C4 by using another standard male 5 pin cable or you can connect this to the omniport of the mc by using a trs to 5 pin adapter. I’d recommend a type A adapter because that’s the default config if you set the omniport to midi out.
A third alternative would be to connect the usb host port to the usb port of the C4. That’s what I did. I’ve found some angled usb c to usb a male and angled mini usb to usb a female on amazon.
If you want to use an angled mini usb make sure it’s oriented the correct way.

@baship - have you got, or do you plan to get, more Source Audio pedals? If so, consider adding the Neuro Hub. Takes MIDI in on 5 pin (with Thru on 5 pin) and allows connection of five SA pedals via TRRS. There’s a few for sale in eg basschat.co.uk

Thanks GuitarWolf -
The 5 pin female SA adaptor deffo don’t fit into the 7 pin female on the back of the MC6 PRo and I’m not going to force it. (See photo in original post)
Think I’ll go down the USB route - good tip on looking at which way it goes if angled.

Thanks - think it was photos of your board I looked at to try and see how cables were run and could see there was a neuro hub.
Not sure what I’m going add next source audio or otherwise but will consider geting a neuro hub.

Showing my newbie status on MIDI.
Looking into cables a bit more and it looks like MIDI ports on the MC6 Pro are 8 pin, but the should only need 5 pin MIDI. I’m assuming the 5 pin layout is the same as the 8 pin and that’s why Guitar Wolf said why can’t I use that.
If I get a male 3.5mm TRRS to 5 pin DIN midi, guess that should work too?

Probably not, you would be better off to use the sa adapter you already got, because it has to be wired the correct way. All you’d need is something like this to put inbetween.

Doesn’t matter if the female socket is 7 pin. A standard 5 pin male to 5 pin male cable will do the job.

@baship - how many pedals are you connecting to the MC at the moment. If you’re only connecting the C4 then to be honest just use any old usb c to mini B cable and plug into the MC’s USB Host socket.

@GuitarWolf - could you kindly post Amazon links for what you purchased? Just had a look and they seem uncommon in right angle form!

The quicker SA adopt a sensible approach with a common or garden Type A mini jack the better!

Sorry, I can’t remember exactly which one I got.
If you search for ‘mini usb angled’ you will find a bunch of angled mini usb to usb a.

Only just got MC6 Pro and specifically for the SA C4.
Haven’t connected to it succesfully yet as waiting for cables to be delivered.
I’ve got a BOSS-FV50 volume pedal knocking about, will see if I can connect this to be used as an expression pedal.
Will be looking to add more.
Got lots of analog pedals, loopers, and some 1980’s rack mounted effects (Roland GS 6 has Midi ports) will be interesting to see if or how these could be used.
For the time being would just be nice to get some use out of the C4.
Had it for a few years and not been able to trust taking it out to gigs as only method for changing presets was with my Iphone and the Neuro App.

All sounds good. So if it were me for now I’d just get a usb c to mini b cable and use that. Simplest option. MC is excellent for opening up the C4, it’s a GREAT pedal!

You might be able to use your vol pedal as an exp… for it to work it needs to be connected using a TRS 1/4” cable from an omniport on the MC to a socket on your vol pedal that meets these criteria…

Expression pedals fitted with 10k ohm linear potentiometers give the most accurate and smoothest response, though 10k - 25k ohm linear potentiometers will work too. The potentiometer wiper should be connected to the Tip of the stereo cable, while the Ring and Sleeve should be connected to the outer lugs on the potentiometer
