MC6 Pro Firmware 3.13.6A Bld 250827445 and Editor V13.12 Suddenly the relay ports have stopped working. You can hear what sounds like the relay clicks activating however the Tip and Ring of any connected stereo 3.5mm plug are never connected to any other contact. Have tried the following using an ohmmeter to confirm. (1) Different 3.5mm plus and cable. (Tested plugs and cables as working on other devices). (2). Downgrading firmware to V3.12.14. (3) Removing and adding back in any presets that are activating teh relays. Despite the act that nothing has changed on that front. These press and relays have been working for ages.
The presets that have worked for ages simply do Tip action Engage / Ring Action disengage.for Relay Port A on action press.
Hi,
Sorry that is the most obvious next quesiston, not sure why I didn’t provide that !
I just re-programmed one preset to use relay B and yes that DOES in fact work on both Tip and Ring.
So although this a lot of work there is at least a work around for the moment. This is a key function because I usie if for muting my bass amp on stage !
n..b Either relays A or B will make an audible click depending on which one is programmed even though the tip/ring are not activated on relay A. i can’t see anything obvious inside to test any components at this stage because the relays are below the main board and the is pretty newish so I don’t want to risk anything.
Since you have an ohm meter, what you can do is just confirm that the Tip and Ring, when activated, is shorted to ground (should read 0 ohm or resistance). Do the same for both ports and see if you get the same behaviour. Let me know how this goes.
Hi ,
Reply to first message is : i believe it’s firmware version 3.13.6A, I downgraded briefly to 3.12.13 to test and the result was the same. I am back on 3.13.6A
Reply to your second message :
For the port that does NOT work (A) . Neither TIP NOR Ring will ever be connected/shorted to sleeve, (ohms always infinite). . When both Tip and ring are both disengaged (in the preset) the Tip and the Ring are shorted together (e.g. 0hm)
For the port that does work (B) the behaviour is as expected, Either the tip or the ring or both are shorted to the sleeve at 0hm when either preset is engaged.
I’m trying to make sense of this - so whether the Tip or Ring is engaged, or disengaged, it does not connect to sleeve? Because the Tip and Ring use separate relays to switch, so they work independently of each other.
You mentioned that when Tip and Ring are both disengaged, the Tip and Ring are shorted together, but not to sleeve? Is this correct?
For the relay ports, there is a setting under Controller Settings >> General Config to set their default polarity. Can you confirm that for Relay Port A, yours is set to Tip : NO && Ring: NO?
Hi,
Correct, the settings for both relay ports are set in the configuration page to Normally Open for both the tip AND the ring, and have been unchanged since getting the new unit.
I agree thats not making much sense at the moment.
For clarity the whole situation summarised in case a different clearer description helps.
If you’re certain it isn’t a cable issue, do drop us an email (help@morningstarfx.com) with this thread link and your order number so we can explore replacement/repair options for you.
Thanks will do.
Thanks for your responses so far. I am as confident as I can be about
the cable since it’s the same cable used on Relay B which works fine.
Also I tried other cables. Obviously I have one more go for luck before
getting back !
