Only got my MC6 Pro very recently. When I started setting up presets I already noticed it glitching and some presets lagging for several seconds. At that point I thought that’s because it was connected to my PC and the editor was running. Now that I have set up the banks that I need and don’t connect the computer anymore I realize that it still is glitching and lagging. Sometimes the presets don’t seem to react at all. Sometimes they just lag. The latency time can span from “clearly noticeable but under a second” to maybe about 3 seconds.
Got 2024-07-12_MC6_PRO_Firmware_v_3_12_13A_No_USB_Keyboard running. I use three of the omniports as expression ins. There is a bit of occasional jitter read at the omniports, but higher sensitivity is more relevant to me than this tiny bit of jittering so I left the expression sensitivity set to “high” at every omniport.
My presets are maybe not the simplest, but considering the capabilities of the MC6 Pro also nothing fancy. Some toggles, one with a shift function, I use one scroll counter and display its values in a preset name. Unfortunately I am not allowed to attach a file to my post, so I uploaded the bank here:
Presets H,N and O are “w.i.p. dumps”.
(Unfortunately uploads at wetransfer vanish after 7 days. If anybody can recommend a better solution I will edit this post or post it in a later reply)
I have my first performance with the MC6 Pro coming up in a few days and I’m getting quite nervous about how much I can rely on it. At my rehearsal yesterday it was unusable at some point. That’s a huge problem for me then, because it now is the only controller I use. Anybody else experiencing glitches and lag? How can this be dealt with? Or is there something wrong with my presets?
/edit:
Apparently it’s glichting when I move the expression pedal connected to an omniport and press a switch at the same time. Most of the time it’s not reacting. Sometimes it interprets switch presses as something else and makes “momentary” presets “latch” or shifts presets without the performing the action set for shift. What could be the root of this problem and how can I remedy it?
The idea is that this preset (same as D) sets a certain CC (here 106) to 127 as long as I press down the switch and resets it to 0 when I release the switch.
I’ve specified the positions for Msg 1 and 2 to Position 1 and for Msg 3 and 4 to Position 2 now. I will rehearse tonight and see if this was the problem. Thank you for pointing this lack of definition.
Off topic: Also thank you for your inspiration on my other post. Haven’t found the time to properly process your answer yet
Crap, no. That didn’t change anything. Preset A for example is in basically reacting randomly to interactions. Clicking the footswitch - nothing. Click again- nothing. Click again - toggles preset A. Click again - shifts Preset A (shift is set to long press on that preset!).
I can’t bring it on stage like that. So for now this device is a 500 Euro loss (plus the time studying the manual and programming it).
Any other idea what the root of this problem could be?
Okay - apparently it’s glichting when I move the expression pedal connected to an omniport and press a switch at the same time. Most of the time it’s not reacting. Sometimes it interprets switch presses as something else and makes “momentary” presets “latch” or shifts presets without me having performed the action set for shift. What could be the root of this problem and how can I remedy it?
Did you configure your omniports correctly?
I’d try to redo it, save and restart.
Any possibilities that there is a midi loop of some sort? Is there anything connected to the midi in or usb host of your MC? Try to redo the midi through settings, save and restart.
If nothing works. Backup, do a factory reset, install the firmware, programm some simple on/off presets, to rule out any issues with your programming, and see if that helps.
Are you a circus artist? Seriuosly, how do you do that? I’d probably just drop on my nose if I tried
Well, I’m a newbie to morningstar controllers, but I would think that I configured the omniports correctly, yes. They are all set to “Expression” with high sensitivity. I use a Moog EP3 and two Chase Bliss Audio EXP. When calibrating I set them up as voltage dividers.
The only MIDI connection to the MC6 Pro is going from its 5 pin MIDI out with a CBA MIDI cable to Mood MKII’s MIDI port. When I was setting up the device for my purposes I noticed the “beware of MIDI loops” warning and disabled all MIDI Thru settings, because I don’t use MIDI Thru and didn’t want to leave this possible source of problems open.
Here are my controller settings:
I have access to this amazing technology called “chairs”. Give it a try once - they’ll keep you safe from nose pain
Seriously, though. Before I sacrifice another dearly needed rehearsal for trouble shooting, factory reset and reconstructing my presets - can you clarify for me that it should be possible to use the EXP pedal and the switches at the same time? Your circus remark leaves the impression that this is an alien thought to you.
I am also unable to use two switches at the same time. For example - in the bank I shared - if I press down preset C and hold it I cannot toggle preset A. The preset just does not react to its switch then. Double presses for switching pages and banks do work, though. Is this pointing towards a certain problem?
I would appreciate this, thank you! Then I’ll prepare for my upcoming show with the blackstar midi controller I used before I got the MC6. I already contacted the retailer about a refund, because the MC6 is of no use for my setup if I can’t use expression and switches at the same time. But we’ll wait until we hear from you on thursday.
Just did a factory reset, reuploaded the latest firmware release and set up only one Preset in toggle mode with two messages and one Omniport for expression. I still get the same glitchy behaviour. Somtimes the Preset is triggered by the switch sometimes not.
I continously move the EXP pedal in this scenario. If you cannot replicate this then the device I was sent is likely faulty, right? So an exchange would make sense. Trying to clarify this before I contact the retailer again so we don’t exchange this unnecessarily.
Oh, wow! I assumed you are part of the team. Holy canoly, thank you so much for your help and effort then! Also - holy canoly, then the official support has basically ignored all messages I’ve sent them except the one where I pointed out a mistake in the manual…ouch.
hey @james - cool to hear from you. Do you have some mails nested there? At least there’s one other email to which I “replied” myself - hence the title from the email on the 23rd starting with “Re”.
Thank you for clarifying that your’re busy at NAMM. Would’ve been even cooler to also read something on the issue itself but I guess that means that the answer for the question is not so simple. Please let me know once you find the time so I can get back to the retailer about this.
Sorry! I was read this while I was on the show floor and wanted to give a quick reply to let you know that I’ve seen this post.
So the issue is that you’re facing issues with using a switch and expression pedal at the same time. If you’re doing a simple press action while using the expression pedal then it should work fine but if you’re doing something like a long press or double tap then there might be some issues (I’ll need to check this tomorrow morning). It should not be doing any intended preset shifting as you mentioned though.
I can’t see your file right now as the WeTransfer link has expired.
Anyone who has experienced the majestic roar of NAMM at the Anaheim Convention Center has my sympathies. Quite distracting!
Enjoy, and safe travels home!
I am still unable to upload attachments in the forum so here’s another wetransfer link instead:
Thank you for your answer. After the factory reset a simple toggle Preset with two messages triggered by switch release still does not work properly when moving the EXP pedal. The MC6 Pro is a magnificient device. I really like it and I would love to keept it. That’s why it feels like a great pity that it is failing with what to me as an outsider seem to be quite simple tasks. I wouldn’t have expected this - especially since the inferiour affordable MIDI controllers I used before have no issue with this use case.
You already stated that double taps and shifting should not work properly when moving an EXP pedal. Is the reason the hardwired architecture of the MC6 Pro or is that a software based problem?
