I admit I’m new to MIDI. I’ve worked through a lot of issues, but have one I can’t seem to figure out. I have a MC6 Pro-based board that will control the Strymon big 3, and 6 non-MIDI pedals through a ML10X. The Strymons work just fine. The issue is the ML10X.
Each non-MIDI pedal is on its own loop. The only way I can get the MC6 Pro to engage a ML10X loop is to manually scroll to that loop on the ML10X. At that point the MC6 toggles the loop on and off. However, no other loops work, until I manually scroll to that loop on the ML10X.
I’m using only 5-pin MIDI cables. I’ve reinstalled the firmware. I’ve connected the MC6 to the ML10X directly, not going through any other pedals. I’ve read everything on the forum I could find that might give me an answer, to include the configuration settings.
I’m using ML10X sysex message type, but also tried CC and PC. Nothing has fixed the issue.
house keeping…Always try release if press isn’t working.
You’re likely using the Advanced routing where you can’t toggle loops.
This is only possible in simple mode
The only way to get another combination is to create that as a preset.
I use a separate loop matrix for my single pedals
I just want to clarify, what you do mean by “manually scroll to that loop on the ML10X”?
In Simple mode, all the loops that you want to use needs to be connected either to the Input Tip or Input Ring. If the loops are left in the Available Loops section, then those will not engage even if you send CC or ML10X messages to control them.
In the image below, the loops highlighted in Red are not used.
Can we see how you have the preset set up in the ML10X by sharing a screenshot of the editor showing your preset settings?
Sending PC messages recalls Presets on the ML10X, which is totally different from what the CC messages does. You mentioned you tried sending CC and PC but nothing fixed the issue, so I just want to make sure there is no misunderstanding on how the ML10X works.
By “manually scroll,” I was referring to using the up and down buttons on the face of the ML10X below the screen. My example here is a Sidecar pedal. The MC6 Pro will not toggle the Sidecar loop (B Tip) on or off unless I manually select the Sidecar loop in the ML10X. And none of the other loops work unless I use the up or down arrow buttons to make that loop appear in the screen…
Hi, if your ml10x doesn’t react at all to incoming midi, it’s most likely an issue with the physical connection .
Did you check the cable and the orientation of the plug?
Also, why is the device id set to 2? Did you try omni? ‘Device id’ is specific to the ml10x message type. It’s used to identify the unit if you are using more than one ml10x. That’s not the same thing as the midi channel. If the id is set to 1 on the ml10x and you’ve programmed the preset on the mc to send the message to 2, the ml10x won’t react.
Yes, cable is good. MC has no issues sending commands when connected to other MIDI pedals.
Tried Omni setting originally. I saw a thread on this forum that described setting a specific device ID, so that was one of the last things I tried. ML10X device ID is set as 2.
And, keep in mind the MC will turn a ML loop on and off–but only if the ML screen shows that specific loop. In my pic of the ML screen above, the screen shows Sidecar. My MC will toggle the Sidecar on and off. But only the Sidecar. My POG will not toggle on or off until I push the arrow up button on the ML to show the POG loop on the screen.
The Up and Down buttons on the ML10X loads different presets, and each preset can be a combination and permutation of any of the available loops.
So in your photo, you know have the Sidecar (B Tip) loop in that preset. I can see in your earlier photo, the ML10X message you are sending has Device ID set to 2. Is your ML10X also set to Device ID 2?
Also, is the MC6 PRO connected directly to the ML10X MIDI Input, or are there any other devices inbetween the MIDI connection? Some devices do not pass MIDI through, like the HX Stomp for example. So these messages will not reach the ML10X if there is such a device inbetween the MC6 PRO and ML10X
Ok, this might be the issue!
Try to create a preset which contains all of your pedals. Then it will be possible to toggle every loop individually. Your previous screenshot shows, that only the sidecar is included in that preset, thus it is the only loop which can be toggled.
