MC4 Pro not sending Midi Clock forward when reveiving it from external source (micro.clock)

Hey,

I just got my first Morningstar controller and I want to control/tap the midi clock with a micro.clock to send it to my SA Collider. When the micro.clock is not connected to the MC4 it works just fine and I get the red BPM indicator. When the micro.clock is connecting I see the correct BPM on my MC4 but the indicator is now black and it doesnt get sent forward to my Collider anymore. I tried MIDI Clock Persist and ignore MIDI Clock On/Off.

Have you configured the MIDI Thru settings further down in Controller Settings > General Configuration?

Just to add, when the MC4 PRO receives an external MIDI clock source, then it will stop generating it’s own MIDI clock (BPM turns from red to black to indicate this, but the BPM will still be updated to the external BPM that it is receiving)

as @Maddcow mentioned, check the MIDI Thru matrix in the Controller settings tab and make sure the clock is getting forwarded from the incoming to desired outgoing port.

That was the issue, thanks a lot Maddcow and James!

I have the exact same problem, but the proposed settings don’t solve it.

MC4 Pro, MIDI Clock coming in via TRS, going out via DIN 5 to my pedalboard. The incoming BPM is displayed in black on the bottom on the right, but the big BPM display in the Preset name (%BP) doesn’t update accordingly and the incoming Clock is not transfered to the Din 5 Out.

MIDI CLOCK PERSIST: ON (though I think that shouldn’t matter)

IGNORE MIDI CLOCK: OFF

MIDI CLOCK PORT SETTING: DIN MIDI enabled

MIDI THRU SETTINGS: 3.5 MIDI IN - THRU TO: DIN5

@james : Any idea?

I solved it. I set the wrong MIDI port to Thru because the labeling is wrong in the current MC4 Pro Editor.

My external MIDI Clock is connected to the 3.5 TRS on the back of the MC4 Pro. To adress the Thru settings for this port you have to edit the “DIN 5 MIDI IN” settings – which is obviously misleading. (The MC6 Pro has a DIN 5 MIDI In, the MC4 Pro doesn’t.)

I hope this will be fixed in the next iteration of the Editor.

That’s a really great point. Added to the roadmap:

Thanks!

On this topic: It doesn’t really make sense to still see the internal BPM (%BP) big in the center while seeing the current/external BPM only small on the bottom. In my opinion “%BP” should always show the current active BPM – or if you think that’s confusing it would at least be helpful to have a “%BP” equivalent for external BPM.

I need to grab my controller and check, but are you saying that currently, you’re seeing the %BP only reflect the last bpm broadcast directly by the MC4 Pro, but it should also be updating to whatever bpm is passing through it when the internal clock has been stopped?

Exactly! In the studio I use mostly external BMP passing through, so seeing this reflected by %BP would be a much better behaviour imo.

I’ve added a request to the public roadmap: Trello
