I read a thread here that said that the MC3 is midi out only, but I believe the technical specifications show midi in/out capabilities with usb. If this is so, can I use a usb y-cable to connect to the effects device for midi in/out and also to the editor at the same time? I’d try this myself but I can’t find my usb y-cable.

You can’t connect a USB MIDI device to another USB MIDI device though. You’ll need a USB Host to communicate with a USB device. This is possible if you use a USB MIDI Host interface.
