I noticed today that when I close the MC-8 Editor v1.1.1 application
that a MIDI message is sent which sends Reset and Note Off commands on a bunch of CCs. These messages reset the MIDI setup on my Lexicon PCM80 and 81. Is this a known issue or do I need to create a workaround?
Also, my scenario was:
1_open editor app
2_connect MC-8
2_disconnect MC-8
4_ close editor app = the attached MIDI message
MC-8 connected with both MIDI 8pin out and USB simultaneously
I hooked up MIDI-OX and captured the message:

thanks James,
Now that Iβve slept on it, maybe this is something my endβ¦
I have tracked it down to be the Kenton Merge-8 in my guitar rack rig. I suspected the Kenton because I have no devices connected to any MIDI channels higher than channel 9 and nothing on OMNI.
OK, maybe I need to supply more info
I just tried closing the v1.1.1 Editor software with my rack switched off which results in zero MIDI traffic.
With the rack powered on I get the the message I attached previously.
[more info I wrote before I tracked it downβ¦might be of use]
I was going to share all my connections, then I did some tracing and tracked the issue down to the Kenton Merge-8 I use to distribute MIDI to my rack.
POWER:
all IEC to a single IEC power block;
except there is one step down from 220 to 110 transformer
Yankee HS-M12 PSU powers everything which is barrel powered and is running with power to spare. I doubled checked with the PSU included with the Kenton to ensure the Yankee wasnβt causing an issue. Whichever method the Kenton is powered, these 64 messages get sent every time I close the MC-8 Editor software.
I can do more troubleshooting my end if you let me know what you want me to do
OK, I just tried the Kenton Thru-5 I have in my rack with the same scenario
The DIN routing is:
MC-8 out> Kenton Thru-5 in
Kenton Thru-5 out> RME UFX+ in
Obviously, the MC-8 is simultaneously connected to computer via USB 3.0 port.
The Kenton Thru-5 sends the following 32 SysEx messages when the MC-8 v1.1.1 Editor software is closed (Win 10 Pro v1909)

any response to this? or do I just deal with the workaround of always remembering to unplug the USB connecting the MC-8 to my computer before closing the Editor Application?
It appears there is some issue with the Editor and Kenton MIDI distribution devicesβ¦no rush, just wondering
Just tested it! I used the SNOIZE midi monitor to check for the messages but did not see any messages appear after I closed the editor. I have the MC8 connected and then disconnected from the editor before I closed it. What platform are you using? Windows 10?
Hi James,
as I wrote earlier in the thread, this only happens with MC-8 connected to Kenton Merge-8 or Kenton Thru-5 via MIDI DIN (I didnβt try 3pin; only 5pin) and USB simultaneously.
My actual routing is
MC-8 out 8pin DIN>RJM RG-16 MIDI IN 7pin DIN>
RJM RG-16 MIDI OUT 5pin DIN> Kenton Merge-8 IN> Merge-8 OUT> Kenton Thru-5 IN
then distributed throughout my rack.
I have checked with only the Merge-8 and only the Thru-5 and both Kentonβs send the messages I posted when closing the Editor App. The messages are sent vis USB 2 or 3.0. Iβd say the only way you are tracking this down is with a Kenton box connected.
Ok, can you try turning the cross MIDI thru setting on the controller off, and see if the issue still happens?
If this setting is turned off then the controller should not be passing any midi messages from usb in to din out. this will help in understanding the issue
