Hi There,
I am building out my presets on the ML10X and am noticing that often times when I load a preset (using the editor until I get the MIDI cable soldered up properly) I almost always need to toggle the loops off/on again to get them to engage properly. I am using the simple mode, and nothing fancy for routing. Is this a bug in the editor maybe and when I start using MIDI it will just work properly?
Mark
I’ve noticed this too, in similar circumstances (using the editor, simple mode).
A worked example:
On bootup, my first preset has all loops bypassed, my second preset has a stereo pair on.
Both presets behave the same - bypassed on all loops.
As you might expect, bypassing and opening the loop on the second preset resovles the issue, but interestingly, doing the same on the first preset, then shifting to the second preset, also resolves the issue for that second preset. (ie, its not just a lack of ‘listening’ to the saved, it’s a a system wide unwillingless to listen to presets until the preset config is manually re-applied.
I have also seen (but have less specific steps for):
A single channel of a stereo pair being bypassed with the other audible.
A preset with two loops open, but only one of them actually being open on load.
…both of these could be explained by me toggling one of the pair/one of the loops in the same session, I think, but worth mentioning.
This is an interesting bit of information. My preset 1 is also a fully bypassed preset. I wonder if there is a bug where that first load state gets stuck? I will try flipping that preset to an “all on” and see if I have better luck.
Regardless, very disappointing that a bug like this would still exist on a product that has been out for a while. @james is this something you are already aware of or should we submit a bug report? This seems like something that should be addressed in short order. I don’t always have my laptop available at a gig. Plus, if for some reason I needed to reboot my board, I would be screwed.
Another thought, I will explore having my MC6Pro send a series of CC commands to toggle each loop and see if that might be a work around. Less than ideal, but workable.
In my testing over the past few days, it seems like the only strange behavior is when USB is connected to the unit. I am able to boot up and start playing without any issues so far.
One thing I would like to see though, is the ability to maintain state of a single loop on my MC6 Pro. For example, I have a Chorus pedal in almost every preset so I can engage it at will. I have a switch on my MC6 Pro assigned to engaging/bypassing that loop. However, if I engage that loop outside of that switch (i.e. using a different preset that might have the chorus enabled) that switch still indicated “bypassed” because it was not triggered. The ability to write back with SysEx the state of a loop (as well as the preset name) would be very helpful.
Overall, I am really liking the ML10X combined with the MC6 Pro. It gives me the Line 6 Helix control, but with an analog board that “makes sense”.
