Just beginning, can't get signal to amp, advice is greatly welcome!

Just getting started with the MC8 and ML10x. From the photo you can see I’m using 10 mono loops with a few pedals before the ML10x. What I’m running into is simply getting sound out to the amp. I’ve got plenty of learning and troubleshooting to get presets going, but figured step one is hearing a guitar through the amp.

Many thanks in advance for the assistance!

Here’s more info…

And a shot of the board itself…

Hi Drew,
Not sure if this is how you intended, but I notice that you make a connection originating from the input ring and going out to the output ring.
In a mono scenario you should generally use the tip for the audio signal.

It’s hard to tell from the photo how everything is wired, but generally you want to try getting a clean signal through the ML10X first. From the image, it looks like you might have a TS cable plugged into the Input and Output.

Make sure the ML10X is being powered up via the 9vDC input and not the USB port. Powering it via the USB port alone will only allow you to connect to the editor but the audio signal switching will not work.

On the ML10X screen, if the top and bottom rows are showing I+ and I+ (instead of I- on the bottom row), then you might need to turn off the Input Split feature in the controller settings on the device. Great to know, thank you! Just to clarify, you’re saying if I’m using a 1/4" cable for the input and output, when using the Editor I need to be sure to only use the Input/Output Tip?

Good info here.

TS cables are being used for the Input and Output, any recommended changes?

I can also confirm a 9vDC power is in place, and the USB cable is only for Editor use.

I+ & I- are shown on the ML10X screen, no need to turn off the Input Split is sounds like.

I appreciate your help here, James.

Yes, that’s pretty much what I m saying. But to be more specific, you only connect to the ring of the input or output if you use stereo in or output. Your tip would be either left or right, wet or dry, and ring the opposite.

In mono, always use the tip. That’s how a jack connector is wired. If you select ring, it simply connects ground to ground, hence you get no signal.

For the send and return of the ml10x loops the same holds. However ml10x gives you the option to split the stereo IO to mono by using the stereo to mono splitting cables, doubling the number of loops (but only in mono). Hence one pedal uses tip and the next uses ring.

Ok, I reluctantly broke down the rig to base components.

  1. Using the MC8/ML10X alone, I was not able to get a guitar signal to the amp.

  2. Used the Color Box V2 as a pre-amp, and was only able to get a small amount of guitar sound to the amp.

A) Are there settings within the Editor that I need to change?

or

B) Do I have a bad unit? Did I get taken on my used ML10X purchase?

I don’t own the device…My advice could be wrong.

Since it’s used, try sending a CC#8 any value (unmute) if you didn’t try that already.
I always do a factory reset if possible on gear I buy used.

Good advice, first thing I did with both devices was a factory reset.

Success! The I+ and I+ made the difference. On to the fun stuff! Thanks y’all!
