Fractal FM3 and MC6 MK II 3.9.2 ..... no 2 way Midi Communication?

Hey Morningstar !

I have the MC6 MKII running v 3.9.2 connected with midi in / midi out with my Fractal FM3 - all working great :slight_smile: - please note I am not using the dedicated Axe Mode as I just set it up as I wanted … all great :slight_smile:

Quick Question … no 2 way Midi Communication ?

If I have FM3 Edit Open and I double click to turn on or off an effect on the screen in FM3 Edit- say the Phaser which I have on Button 1B - FM3 Edit works fine and opens and closes the EFX accordingly - but the MC6 MKII Screen 1B Phaser Button never changes its state ?!?!

Is there a fix / way around this -or- is it not doable at all with v 3.9.2 ?

Hi Ben,

No, there is no such 2 way communication with the Fractal Audio devices. The only integration is

  1. Tuner
  2. Fractal Integration mode, where the controller pulls preset + scene data and displays it in the controller. More info here: https://morningstarengineering.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MMS/pages/181698784/Message+Type+Glossary#Axe-FX-III-and-FM3-Integration

Thanks James - please pardon my technical ignorance … am curious … given they are connected to each other via Midi In / Out is there a specific reason for the non-2-way Midi Communication and each unit “staying in sync” with each other (?)

Is this something that can be added in a later FW (?)

That’s because there’s no standard protocol of syncing two devices together - when you change the state on the FM3, it does not send information to tell the MC6 that it’s state has changed. That means the MC6 has to constantly poll the FM3 on the state of its preset (if there’s an available API for that, I’m not sure yet).
