Fractal Audio VP4

Is anyone use a Morningstar to control the new Fractal VP4?

I am hoping to use a MIDI controller to control two VP4s, running one pre- and the other post. One reason for this is to be able to run stereo effects out of mono amp/cab sim pedal.

Would I need the MIDI Box for that?

The goal is to be able to turn groups of effects blocks on/off similar to scenes. One limitation of the VP4 is 4 scenes, considering there are times when a song might have more group changes than that.

I would primarily use the VP4 onboard footswitches for effects on/off, and the Morningstar to bank up/down and for song sections (as “scenes”).

Any thoughts? I am new to MIDI, having only used it sparingly in the past. The Fractal FC controllers don’t necessarily count as they’re specifically designed for the Fractal modelers.

Thanks!

You wouldn’t need a MIDI box for that. The VP4 has MIDI Thru so you can daisy chain them. Just set each one to a different MIDI channel so that you can control them both independently. Audio and MIDI are completely separate, so you can still run your audio with one VP4 pre and the other post like you mentioned.

These 2 videos we made will be a great MIDI refresher for you:

  1. Pedalboard MIDI 101
  2. MIDI Connections

Thank you Brandon. I thought so, but I needed confirmation. And thanks also for those videos.
