In the diagram, the signal coming out of the Sunset OD is split into 3 within the ML10X and then routedto 3 different ports/devices. One to the output (for your dry signal), and then 2 other signals to the Timeline and Bigsky L/R. The Amp Send 1/2 is using a send port as an output.
But isnt the sunset (which I do not own anyways) mono in and mono out?
Yes, the ML10X takes the mono signal and splits it 3 ways and routes them to 3 different outputs (or send ports) in the diagram
There are many ways to build a wdw rig. Would be helpful if you could specify what gear you want to use and what you’d want in terms of your signal path. For example: do you run your wet fx in front of an amp or in the fx loop? Do you want to have reverb and delay in series or parallel? Do you want to run modulation in your dry or wet signal or both? And so on.
But how do you (as is shown in the diagram) split a mono jack into three outs? Wouldn’t that require a trs?
The ML10x digitally routes everything, no? The possibilities are pretty endless in how you need to route just about anything to anywhere, including creating parallel signal paths.
It routes the output of the sunset?
I don’t have the ML10x yet but it looks like the sunset, timeline, and bigsky are all plugged in to individual loops on the morningstar. Then in the editor you would set it like shown. The ML10x will take the input and send it to the Sunset, there it takes the out and sends it to Output for your dry signal while ALSO sending the same output to the timeline (in stereo). The Timeline out then routes to the bigsky and out to two seperate outputs for you left and right wet. The pedals are each just individually plugged in to the ML10x and all the routing is done digitally in the unit.

Ok, that I was not aware of. I assumed these were the physical inputs. So, assuming I would not be plugging my midi pedals into the ml10x (just routed in an MC8), is there a way to run it wet/dry/wet?
Only what is plugged into the ML10x can you route around. The MC8 is just a controller to tell the ML10x and any other midi capable pedals to do something. Any midi capable pedals you were planning on only controlling via midi (not in an ML10x loop) will have to be before or after the whole ML10x. Without knowing your exact setup it’s hard to advise, but you could in theory have your non midi pedals in the ML10x followed by your midi controlled “wet” pedals after. Essentially exactly like the picture but the Amp Send 1/2 are going into the timeline instead of having those pedals in the ML10x. You of course would not be able to change the order of anything not in an ML10x loop but that may be exactly what you’re looking for? If you have few enough pedals you could include everything in loops of the ML10x and still use midi from the MC8 to the midi pedals to control parameters or preset changes.
TLDR: any pedal plugged into a loop of the ML10x you can rearrange and route to an extreme degree, and anything else would be before or after everything in the ML10x
OK, so this would basically be my current setup, running into 3 amps. I currently use an Empress Buffer+ Stereo to route the pedals for that. In the midi units I’ve used in the past, I’ve just run everything into the unit and configure everything from there, which I guess what is throwing me.
The idea of running the midi pedals after the Ml10x is probably what I’ll have to do. I could conceivably run one or two of the midi pedals in the ML10x, but not all of course.
I currently run a WET/DRY rig using the MC8 and the ML5 plus a LEHLE passive switcher- to split my signal in two…
You would need a THREE WAY SPLITTER.
LEHLE do great kit in this regard.
I.e. One split for DRY + 2 more for L&R Stereo for WET.
I currently have an MC8 coupled with an ML5 looper switch.
The MC8 has four omniports on the back which will send MIDI Via TRS to pedals like Strymon Deco - so you DON’T need the new midi version of the Pedal.
So FOUR of these pedal types, can be turned on/off (and presets selected) with the MC8 directly.
I then connected 5 pedals (four strymon) in mono to the ML5 switcher
The ML10 would be better for W/D/W -especially with custom signal path option.
The ML5 is A GREAT looper switcher - ESPECIALLY when it’s controlled by the MC8 for variable switching combinations - although it has no signal path editing.
I have the pedals connected to the looper AND also MIDI in/MDI out for each pedals - connected to the MC8 midi chain - which allows preset switching as well.
I personally prefer WET/DRY rather Faux Stereo or W/D/W rigs.
“That pedal Show” on YouTube did a definitive video on the various types of Rigs.
Hope this helps….
Reference MC5 / MC10 switchers.
Say I have 8 pedals - all MIDI.
I want three on for the Verse and a different four for the Lead etc etc.
I found it difficult on the MC8 controller to program this - so I used the midi capabilities on the ML5 to make ML5 PRESETS for different switching patterns - which only takes one press of an MC8 switch to call up the ML5 switching Preset.
*It also has a MANUAL LEARN FEATURE to quickly make and save the Switching Patterns as presets.
You can also put MORE THAN ONE PEDAL in a ML5 loop - especially “Always On” pedals.
The ML10 in STEREO? would be even more awesome!
Sorry - that should be “ML5” and “ML10”
Thats a nice board man! Yeah so basically you’d need to choose which pedals to include in the loops of the ML10x (those would be totally routable within the unit) and what you could potentially put before or after since you’ve got more pedals than loops. As long as anything not plugged into a loop of the ML10x has midi you should be able to use the MC8 to toggle on/off (as well as your normal midi parameter controls/preset recalls) however you won’t be able to rearrange those obviously.
To give perspective, I use an ML5 (only 5 loops and no rearranging order/routing) that i have all my drives/non midi pedals plugged into, towards the front of my signal chain. After that whole unit I have my reverbs and delays (all midi capable). I use the MC6, instead of the MC8 to control everything from turning on/off the midi pedals to toggling presets of certain pedals in the ML5 on or off.
I currently use an empress buffer+ stereo as a splitter and then run that between my dry amp and then to my stereo pedals which split to two other amps. My drive pedals go before the split. I’ve seen the pedal show and agree with them about wet dry wet, where you maintain the clarity of both your mono and stereo by keeping them separate.
I guess I’ll need to do a deep dive on the mc8’s functionality to see if it makes sense to me. I’m coming from the rjm world, so it will probably take some adjustment anyways.
Yeah, I guess I’m going to probably end up doing something similar- the mc8 controlling the midi pedals and ml10 the drive. The only thing I might be missing is that I was hoping to be able to isolate most of the pedals, because I don’t want to wreck my signal too much.
Big picture, you can leave the TimeLine and BigSky out of the loops and simply leverage the mix controls to get your wet/dry.
But you’ll be missing the opportunity to reroute them. Series /Parallel etc
maybe bite the bullet and have a second loop switcher that serves the pedals that are generally in front.
I have a Boss ES8 and am playing with the ML10X in it’s stereo loop.
So that gives me 7 reorder-able loops and 5 reorder-able stereo loops in the ES loop 8

You could use an ML5 and even pop it into the ML10X to reorder it.
The possibilities are huge.
First work out what you’re trying to achieve though…
I think I’m just going to get the mc8 working first and then integrate the rest later.
