Firmware update 3.13.2

I successfully installed the firmware update 3.13.2 on my MC6 pro. However, after restarting the controller, 3.13.1 is still displayed. Is anyone else experiencing this? Everything works perfectly.

and the editor keeps telling me there is a firmware update… and the editor says im still on 13.13.1 too

My bad, I’ve re-compiled the firmware and have uploaded it:

Can anyone please explain what is the preset rename feature about? and how is it useful in a real world scenario?

Hi, the rename feature is useful if you set up a preset to do more than one thing. For example, if you use ‘message scroll’ it is possible to send up to 32 messages (one or more with each press) to different devices. Renaming the preset helps a lot to keep track of what is happening. Another example would be, if you use ‘engage preset’ messages you can use the rename feature to get a visual feedback on the current preset.

I use rename similarly to @GuitarWolf’s example i.e. to visually track the current status of a switch. When I activate the switch, the background momentarily changes to red so I know the switch has been activated and then the switch is renamed to reflect the current state e.g. Delay On, Mic Muted etc. When I deactivate the switch, the background momentarily changes to red again, and the switch is renamed back to its original name/state.

How do you momentarily change the background?
Thanks

Use a Utility command on a Press action (in addition to the Press action with CC or PC for the actual switch function) to change the background colour….and then use another Utility command on a Release action to change it back to the original colour.

So, pressing the switch executes the MIDI command AND momentarily changes the background to red (or whatever colour you want), and then releasing the switch changes the background back to the original colour.

Thanks @Maddcow AND @GuitarWolf!

By the way, is there a way to use the same utility function that temporarily changes the background of a preset when a switch is pressed, in conjunction with the preset renaming feature? What I’d like is for the preset name to change momentarily—either to display a temporary name or to show the preset’s long name—whenever I trigger that utility message/momentary action.

You just use one command for each (colour change and name change) for each state change….this is exactly what I do.

You’ll end up with a bunch of commands but the end result is definitely worth it.

I’m having trouble getting it to work as expected. Would you mind sharing a screenshot of your editor setup so I can better understand how you’ve configured it?

Sure thing. I’m just in the middle of something right now but will post some pics in a few hours. Too easy.

That’s great, thank you so much!

Here you go. This switch does the following:

  1. Pressing and holding the switch sends a CC to mute my sax mic input while the switch is being pushed. (I opted for a momentary switch because I don’t want to accidentally mute the sax with a switch push and then forget it’s muted)
  2. Pressing and holding the switch changes the background to red
  3. Pressing and holding the switch changes the text name and icon
  4. Releasing the switch sends a CC to unmute the sax mic
  5. Releasing the switch changes the background back to the original colour
  6. Releasing the switch changes the text name and icon back to the original name

Just out of interest, what was it that wasn’t working for you? I’m curious, but would also like to know if I could have explained things better upfront.

I had the message order wrong, and also the action type

That’s something I e suggested to @james he was gonna look into it. It would be nice to be able to change all that with one message rather than two to save on messages. I also suggested that for the seect expression message, to allow for a built in preset rename feature for that message, that way when moving the expression pedal, the long name displays which message your controlling instead of the generic name you gave to your expression preset that may have all 32 messages assigned, but you only use one message at a time.
