Expression pedal and wah - the pedal board space challenge

Alright, so I’m struggling with a pedal board space issue. I would really like an expression pedal on my board, and love how the MC6pro can route the expression pedal via midi expression to different pedals.

However, I kind of need my wah as well, and I simply don’t have space for a wah and an expression pedal. Ideally I’d get a wah and expression pedal in one, but I don’t seem to find a lot of those.

Maybe a pedal like the hotone Soul Press II, but lets be honest, you’d really want the functions to be midi switchable.

Anyone got the ideal pedal, or a way of working that I have overlooked?

Hi,

Expression pedals are usually passive, just put it next to your board. All you need is a trs cable that is long enough.

If you are using a loop switcher, you can put the Wah’s audio path in a loop and connect its expression output to the MC6. Then you can pull the wah in and out of the signal path while also telling the MC6 what MIDI expression to send (if any).

I’ve got a Wong Press (the tweaked Soul Press II) and I do a variation of this, but instead of putting it in a loop, I just use its toe switch to swap between wah and off.

Another solution might be a digital wah. The big box multi-effects tend to have one (HX Stomp and the like), and you can even simulate a decent one with MIDI EQ pedals like the Source Audio EQ2 or GFI Enieqma.

Thanks for the suggestions. I own a ML10x which I can route the wah through. For the soul or wong press, I assumed that the expression out was not active in wah mode. But if expression is active when the wah is clicked to its full toe down that would be great. However I thought expression would only be send out when the switch on the side was switched. If expression is send without flicking the switch this will be perfect for me.

I have to check again, but I think expression outputs on most of these devices are always-on. It’d then be up to you program whether or not that is sending MIDI expression data.

This is the one I am using, set i n wah monde only.
So I can switch the wah like any other wah pedal and the Morningstar is receiving all the time the pedal position, whenever the wah is on or other. Then it only depends on your Morningstar patches to decide if you want to do something or not with the EP messages.

Or if you have on your board a midi controllable effect that can act as a what, then control it with the EP (which is not my case).

Thanks guys! I got a wong press on the way to me. Looking forward to explore the options.

Indeed, if you’d have a multi effect with midi controllable wah you could get away with a regular expression, but thats not part of my set up.
