I have 3 presets for different delay and reverb expression ranges. However, when I switch presets, I have to sweep the expression pedal so that the ranges send cc messages and begin to lineup appropriately. I can’t just go from 100% on each preset without sweeping the pedal.
I know there is a way for a preset to read the current expression percentage and send that as a CC message upon selecting the preset. However, it does not seem to give you the option of a range. So for instance, if use that in my presets for delay mix on the strymon el capistan, and my expression is at 100%, I then have zero dry sound. I would never use it like that. I go from 0 to equal mix.
(Of course either that sweep the expression when you select a preset.)
Is there a way for presets to send the current expression preset, using those ranges?
Hi, it’s possible to set a limit. This is done in the expression preset. If you need different ranges for the same pedal, you could still use different expression presets.
I have presets A, B & C selecting different ranges from my expression preset. At present I have to select the preset, then sweep my expression pedal to go from fully wet A to fully wet B for instance.
I want to go directly from Fully Wet / 100% expression settings of Preset A, to Fully Wet / 100% expression settings of Preset B, WITHOUT having to roll the expression down and up.
Just send the corresponding CC# value 127 (or 64 if that’s your default maximum) then?
If the max of preset A differs from the max of preset B I can’t think of a way to do this other than always default to a specific value when recalling the preset.
Maybe I should have worded the whole post differently.
I have 3 different MC6 pro presets that each select a delay and reverb pedal preset and establish a dry to wet expression range (so I have setup expression presets and they get selected with the MC6 pro presets).
Currently, if my expression pedal is sitting at 50% of its sweep, and I switch presets, I have to manually sweep the expression pedal then bring it to rest at that 50% mark again. I would prefer that when I change MC6 pro presets that it simply applies my current expression reading
to the expression preset that’s programmed into the MC6 pro preset.
Preset A short 1/8th delay with spring verb
(Expression preset goes from barely on to drippy).
Preset B medium 1/4 note delay with medium plate. Expression goes from moderate to medium wet.
Preset C is 1/2 note delay with huge plate verb. Expression goes from reasonable to no dry sound.
With each preset having a different expression preset, I can’t just have my pedal at 50% and get my most used setting for each preset. I have to select the preset the sweep the expression and come back to 50.
There is a way to send the current expression reading as a CC#, but there is NOT a way (that I have found) to send the current expression reading and have it apply to your expression preset settings when they are selected.
Let’s say I alternate to this other preset with a different expression range on the el Capistan. See above where MC6 Pro preset Bank 1 Preset B has its own expression range settings selected. Let’s say my expression pedal is at 50% when I change to this preset. In order to get to 50% I have to sweep the pedal and get back to 50%.
I’ve had some people tell me that a way to get the current expression setting to go into immediate effect in a preset is to program in the message shown here. However, this message sends the exact CC value, NOT the CC range programmed into the expression preset and selected as shown above.
So for instance, I like 100% expression to be full volume and full delay, which is a cc value of 90 or almost 3/4 of the way on the mix knob. If my expression pedal was at 100% when I selected this preset, the message shown here would send 100% delay with no dry signal.
Is there another way to do what I’m trying to do? I just want the expression pedal setting to engage exactly as it sits when I engage a preset. Right now I have to engage the preset, sweep the expression pedal so it starts reading the change and sending the correct cc values to the pedals.
If athere’s not another way to do this already, it would be great for this last picture to allow you to either select an expression preset, or allow you enter the range manually here.
I will try it again but it does not seem to be doing that. It seems to be sending a 0-127 correlating cc value instead of the range of the expression preset.
This is correct - the Use value from expression feature takes the position of the expression pedal (and not the messages in the expression preset) and sends a value based on the position of the expression pedal and mapped to 0-127.
I think there isn’t a way to do what you want currently. We’ll likely need to add a new message type for the preset to “trigger” all the messages in the expression preset once.
You’re right. I understand that some people use expression differently and wouldn’t want potentual immediate changes (like volume and effects settings jumps). However, for those of us that utilize the “use value from expression” command, the expression preset values would be preferable because, you can program a setting of 0-127 if that’s what you need. Or you can have a customized setting send immediately like in my usage.
@james I just wanted to check with you on if this is something that is under consideration. I made a separate post for a feature request worded the best way I knew to describe it.
