Engage Preset -> Option to engage the actual MC8 preset

Would it be possible to add an option to the Engage Preset -message that actually activates the said Preset on the MC8 itself rather than just sending the messages it has? It would make momentary (press+release) switches more clear to use.

Please someone tell me if you know a better way to do this! Here’s my problem:

I have basic bass tone on Switch A.
I have momentary vocoder preset programmed on switch E for short vocoder moments.
After using the momentary E switch I want the MC8 screen to show that I’m on the A preset again. But now it is still showing that it’s on preset E, even though in actuality my gear is on A because on the release I have Engage Preset A programmed.

Hi, disable ‘clear preset toggles’ in bank settings. I think this should fix it. …I’m assuming you are using ‘toggle mode’?

Hi, thanks for the fast response!

As far as I can tell, I’m not using toggle mode and the “Clear all preset toggles” setting is off. I can’t tell whether toggling would be beneficial in this scenario. To clear the situation more, here’s how I’ve programmed the thing:

Switch A:
msg1 on press: PC Change x ch1
msg2 on press: PC Change x ch2 (not important for Vocoder preset)
msg3 on press: PC Change x ch3

Switch E:
msg1 on press: PC change y ch1
msg2 on press: PC change y ch3
msg3 on release: Engage Preset A

After release the screen shows that active preset is E, but I want it to show A.

The screen will always show the last button pressed. There is no way around. If you want a clear indicator which presets are currently active you should start to use preset toggles and ‘preset blink’.
You might have to redo a lot of your presets though. The logic behind toggle states will shift significantly how your presets interact with each other

Cheers! Luckily I’m just starting off with the MC8 so I’m just testing how can I get these things I need to work most efficiently. I am currently having a hard time understanding how the Toggle states could be incorporated in my “all individual one shot -presets” line of programming my gear, but perhaps there is a way.

I still think that the original feature request would be nice, if the hardware allows that kind of programming.

Well, the feature is already there. ‘Engage preset’ wil engage presets, but you have to tell the preset to engage in the first place. Which leads us back to toggle mode.
To clear things up. You would benefit from preset toggles because ‘preset blink’ is tied to the toggle state of the preset. In position 1 the preset is disengaged, in position 2 the preset is engaged. If preset A is in position 1 and you program another preset with an ‘engage preset’ message to engage preset A, preset A will be toggled to position 2 and starts blinking.
This works independently of the messages programmed to preset A. If you leave the position of the individual messages of preset A at ‘pos both’, those messages will be send regardless of the toggle state of the preset when pressing the switch A.

Very nice! I think I’m starting to get the hang of the toggle thing, althought with the possibilities of MC8 the possibilities may melt my brain a few times to get the more complicated commands to go the way I want.

Thanks again for the help!
