Editor issue with CME Widi Jack and Android

Hi all

I have just bought a CME Widi Jack so I can edit settings on my MC6MKII wirelessly from an Android device.

I am able to connect it to my Android phone using the Chrome editor. I can see all of the Bank names and settings for the switch that was last pressed before going into the editor, but everything in the editor is unresponsive. If I click on a switch on the right or if I click bank up/bank down/page toggle in the editor then nothing happens. I can edit the settings or name of a switch and click save but nothing saves. The Midi Monitor works and the Widi Jack LED flashes when I click on anything in the editor like it is receiving data.

Has anyone had the same experience? I have tried two Samsung Android devices and both did the same thing. I did find a support page or manual advising to clear data from Chrome but this did not help. MC6 is on the latest firmware (3.10.2) and both Android devices and Chrome are fully up to date. The Widi Jack is set to B (A does not allow me into the editor at all) and is on the latest firmware (0.1.7.7) with all default settings.

I tried it on a work laptop and had issues too. Everything worked as expected with a USB cable but Chrome crashes while using the Widi Jack. I can choose the Widi from a drop down of available devices, the editor loads then Chrome closes itself before I can do anything.
I installed the Korg BLE Midi driver (recommended by CME) and thought it could possibly be blocked by work policies when in use so I tried a non work managed machine and it did the same thing. I was only trying this as a test so I am not worried about a fix if this is only an issue for me.

Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated. I am hoping this is purely user error or at worst, an issue with the Widi Jack which only arrived today.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this is in the wrong category.

Edit:
After seeing the below on another forum post I thought I would try the beta firmware. I know it says MC8 but I am possibly experiencing a similar bug. It did not fix my issue.

‘* Fixed Bug in MC8 which prevents MC8 from communicating with editor via WIDI Jack’

I have also tried resetting all settings and that did not fix it either. I have now reverted back to the latest official firmware and imported my settings back into the MC6.

If you click on “Connect” on the editor, and the MC6 responds by sending the bank names etc to the editor and it appears in the editor, then 2 way communication is working between the MC6 and the editor.

Can you just check that you have MIDI Thru disabled in the MC6? You can press A+F on the MC6 to toggle MIDI Thru on or off.

WIDI Jack needs to be set to Type B if you are using the DIN5 to 2.5mm adaptors with the WIDI Jack because those adaptors from CME are wired as Type B.

Hi James

Thank you for the quick reply. Midi Thru was off but Cross Midi Thru was turned on. I have now turned Cross Midi Thru off but the editor is still unresponsive on Android. I have not yet retested with Windows.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. AFAIK there are no bugs related to using the DIN ports on the MC6 to connect to the editor via WIDI Jack but let me give it a go again tomorrow and update.

Hi James

Did you get a chance to try the editor through a Widi Jack on Android or Windows 10?

Thanks

Yes, the WIDI Jack works when connected to the editor on my Mac and iPhone app. Ive not had a chance to try it with a Windows or android device yet though. I’ll try to set up my Windows CPU tomorrow to test.

Did you try using the Bluetooth MIDI connect app in Android?

Hi James

Yes. I downloaded the CME app, paired to the Widi Jack and ran the firmware update. Then for Android, I downloaded ‘Bluetooth MIDI Connect’ by ROCKRELAY and am connecting that way before opening the editor. I have also tried ‘MIDI BLE Connect’ by Mobileer Inc. Both will allow me to connect with the editor but not edit anything or toggle/change banks through the editor. For Windows I installed the Korg driver as advised on this site:
WIDI Jack: Start Guide - CME - The MIDI Experts.
I can see the MC6 on the editor page as an available device but as soon as it connects Chrome closes with no error.
The Android device and Windows devices both work with no issues through a USB cable.

Thanks

Hi all

Has anyone else had issues with the editor on Windows or Android through the Widi Jack? If not, there seems to be a fault somewhere and I may need to send the Widi Jack back. The only reason I bought it was for the editor and I am having the same experience on 2 Android devices (connects but is unresponsive) and 3 Windows devices (Chrome instantly closes after connecting). No issues with any of the 5 devices through a USB cable.

Thanks

Just tested on my Windows 10 machine, experiencing the same issue where Chrome crashes on connect. Did some googling and it seems like there is an issue with Windows receiving SysEx messages via Bluetooth. My MIDI Ox software crashed as well. Not sure what is the exact issue yet.
