Disable power on via USB

Could the devs make power over USB an optional feature? Every day I power down my music gear when I am finished, but leave my computer running. Every day I have to unplug and replug 5x ML-10x’s because they have stayed on via USB after the 9v is cut off - and they happily regress into a ‘non switching’ mode when the power is lost, but you’ve advised previouslyyou don’t intend to restore the intelligent switching back the other way (USB connection detecting 9v power and resuming switching), which is fine, but the current state is a usability nightmare.

Could you make the units switchably 9v only to avoid this issue?

Thinking about this some more, a soft-reboot feature in the editor would do the job, too, as it would force a re-detect once 9v had been applied.

If you found a way to support MIDI connections for multiple devices in Windows, I wouldn’t have this issue, but as long as I need serial to have more than one device, I need USB.

It’s basically unworkable to have a full pedalboard solution in a studio setting. Having USB hubs and ML10s all on one master power switch, the USB ‘beats’ the pedal board power supply for the ML10.

With five units, and inconsistent symptoms (sometimes its not really letting any signal thru, just noise, other times it’s much more subtle, with a digital distoration on things like pick attack), it’s impossible to actually even be sure that distortion comes from this source.

Please offer a soft reboot or a disable power over USB function - this is painful.

We can’t disable power over USB, unless a board modification (removal of a SMD diode) is something you want to consider. If so, I can send the instructions.

Regarding a soft reboot, do you mean you want to have an option on the menu to reboot the ML10X?

Yes, as long as the device would then prioritise the 9/18v source over USB on reboot, I would consider that a reasonable workaround for this unwanted (surely unintended?) behaviour. :slight_smile:

I probably can just add a user function to re-initialise the Matrix switching chip on demand, without having to reboot. Will look into it and update.

The fix will allow the ML10X to initialise the Matrix chip when 9V power is applied. Please let me know how it works for you.
