Hello,
I have a MC6 pro, and Boss DD8 that i d like to use together. Now i know the DD( is not MIDI compatible.
The FS7 has 2 TRS outputs.
My use case :
- connect the FS7 output ‘A’ to the BOSS DD-8 and use the FS7 for tap tempo (switch B of the FS7) and TWIST (switch A of the FS7)
- connect the FS7 output ‘B’ to one of the MC6 pro Relay ports
My intent : every time i set tap tempo with the FS7 B switch, it simultaneously sets it not only for my DD8 but also for my MC6 Pro midi clock.
==> Is this possible ? and if yes, how to do this ?..
Second question : is there a way to engage the twist function of the BOSS DD8 from a command of the MC6 pro (forget the FS7 external switch in this case) ?
(PS: i ve already watched the Morningstar video featuring the BOSS DD8, but it did not address my questions above)
Hi. There is actually a simpler way to achieve what you want. And it can be done without the FS7, but if you want to use the FS7 you can also do so. However, you just need the FS7 to function as a preset switch for the MC6 PRO. You do not need to connect it to the DD8.
MC6 PRO has Relay Ports that allow you to control analog tap tempo. We explain that in this video:
We also show you how to sync MIDI Clock and analog tap in the video. If you want to use the FS7 as a foot switch for this, simply assign it control one of the MC6 PRO presets and you’re good to go. I hope this helps!
Thank you Benjamin !
Yes i saw that, and understood it. But my question is to also be able to use the TWIST function of the DD8 (possible only via the FS7 as far as I know), on top of what is explained in your video for the tap tempo.
Because, with the Boss DD8 on its own, you can use the FS7 switch A for Twist (via a long press, as a momentary mode) and switch B to set tap tempo. Now, my point is how to keep the same functionality + use this tap tempo to set the MC6 pro midi clock.
Hi,
everything the FS 7 can do can also be done via the relay ports of the MC.
The way the FS 7 is designed you can either use both outputs with a ts cable or the A&B out with a trs cable.
If doing the latter one B is connected to the tip and A is connected to the ring of the plug.
To work with Boss pedals you have to set up the relay port (controller settings) to be ‘momentary’ and ‘normally closed’ (called NC).
It is possible to emulate a long press via the relay if you programm a preset to open the relay on ‘press’ and close on release.
The Twist function is engaged by holding the momentary switch down. The MC6 PRO can also mimic that functionality with the Relay Switching message type.
Press Action: Engage Relay
Release Action: Disengage Relay
That’s if you want it to function momentarily. If you want the Twist function to latch, you can even do so by using Toggle Mode.
Toggle Mode On
Press: Engage Relay (Position 1)
Press: Disengage Relay (Position 2)
If you are happy to use the FS7 for this instead, you can continue to do so too!
Here comes the trickier bit. You cannot connect FS7 switch B directly to the DD-8 if you want it to control both the DD-8 and MIDI Clock tempo simultaneously. You need to have a Relay Port connected to the DD-8 tap input and use FS7 switch B as an external aux switch to trigger an MC6 PRO preset with the settings shown below.
Under Omniport settings, you would need to set the Omniport connected to FS7 switch B to function as an aux switch input with the settings below (preset Q used as an example).
Damn, you guys are the best ! Thank you so much for the excellent support… Thats really setting you guys apart.
Im out of the country now but will try this over the weekend !
