Can't save banks or presets

I’ve just hooked up my MC6 Pro, and am trying to store a preset using the relay port. I’ve used MC6 and MC8 for some time, but I’m baffled.
I completed the settings for the relay port engage and disengage, and save the bank and preset… but my MC6 Pro shows all presets as Empty. The third illuminated block shows ‘B001 PG1’.
When I have edited the preset and try to save it, I’m told to select a preset first. When I edit the bank and try to save it, I get the same message. When I click on preset A (the one I was editing), my changes are erased. :frowning:
I have the latest stable firmware, 3.12.13, and I am using the editor from the Morningstar website.
I’m using the MIDI A to MIDI C cable shipped with the MC6 Pro, with a cable extension to reach my PC (Dell XPS tower 1 year old, running Windows 11).
I had hoped to dig into the MC6 Pro this weekend, but it looks like that can’t happen.

Try it without the extension and see what happens.
I used to get disconnected while using extension cables. Now I plug into a ESI M4U eX which has a powered USB hub and work for hours.

Thanks. I just did a system reset of the current profile, and now it won’t connect to the editor AT ALL. I disconnected the cable, rebooted the device, and tried again without the extension… and it still won’t connect.
I’m starting to wonder if I just got a bad unit. I ordered it straight from Morningstar and took quite a while to reach me, hope I don’t have to return it.
I never had ANY such problems with the MC6 Mk II and MC8, BTW.

I’m getting no answers, so I’ll keep talking to myself.

Although my device reports the latest firmware, I ‘updated’ it to that firmware version. No change in behavior.

I believe the staff is busy because of NAMM. Might take a while to get official support.
Have you already tried to power the MC by a 9V power supply? I have similar issues when powering the MC via usb. But it works fine if I boot it up before connecting to the pc.

Thanks. I’m using the same CIOKS DC7 power supply for the MC6 Pro as I did for the MC8 I used before it. I’ve sent an email to Morningstar support with all of the above information, and at this point I’m resigned to just waiting until they get back to me.

I’ve resolved this, as a result of a lucky break.
My company recently required the use of the Chrome browser. I had been using Vivaldi the last time I was using the Morningstar editor, but that was disallowed and I switched to Firefox, which I was using for my attempts to use the editor with the MC6 Pro.
Yesterday I got around to moving to Chrome on my personal computer… and opening the editor popped up a prompt asking me to allow the site to modify MIDI devices. :flushed: I recall seeing that listed as a requirement somewhere in the Morningstar docs, but I saw no way to actively grant this permission.
Using Chrome this morning, everything WORKS.
Takeaways: First, the vague error message gave no clue what the problem was. Second, I suggest that asking about the browser and the MIDI permission be one of the first steps Morningstar support takes when a customer reports a problem.
I am now a happy Morningstar user again, and just in time: My new pedalboard arrived yesterday.
