Can't Connect Devices to Editor

I have the ML10X connected via USB and am trying to use a Nektar Pacer midi controller (also connected via USB and midi cable to the ML) and when I go into the editor it says there are no midi devices detected. Made sure both are set to the same channel but no change in status.

I’m pretty sure this is in the so obvious it hurts category of question but I’m not finding a way around it. Any suggestions?

Hey there Kevin . A couple of different things could be going on here.

  1. The ML10X Editor only ever talks to the ML10X’s own USB connection. It doesn’t need to see the Pacer at all — the Pacer just needs to talk to the ML10X over the DIN MIDI cable once you’re done editing. So if you’re expecting the Pacer to show up as a device in the editor, that’s not how it works — the editor’s job is just to program the ML10X.

  2. If the ML10X itself isn’t showing up in the editor, the usual culprits, in order of likelihood:

  • Wrong browser — the web Editor only works in Chrome, Opera, or Brave. Safari and Firefox don’t support WebMIDI at all, so it’ll silently show “no devices.” Try Chrome if you’re not already.
  • MIDI permission not granted — click the little padlock/settings icon next to the URL bar and make sure MIDI devices are set to “Allow full control.” Chrome should prompt for this on first connect, but it can get denied or reset.
  • USB cable is charge-only — this trips people up constantly. Try a cable you know passes data (e.g. the one your Pacer uses).
  • USB hub — connect the ML10X directly to a computer USB port rather than through a hub.
  • Driver got mangled (Windows) — open Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers. If the ML10X is listed but the editor still won’t see it, right-click → Uninstall, then unplug/replug the ML10X so Windows reinstalls it cleanly.
  • Another app has grabbed the MIDI port — on Windows especially, only one app can hold a MIDI port at a time. Close any DAW or other MIDI software that might be running in the background.
